Did you test an e46 m3 though? Because its not your typical 3 series... I was debating between e46 m3 and e39 m5 but i got the e46 m3 because its much easier/cheaper to maintain and they are both have similar drag speed but the sound of the m5 is obviously unmatcheable and having 4 doors is a convenience.

E39 m5 - much more quiet, powerful & thirsty engine, baller/confortable oriented. Lots of electronics / sensors. I heard there's 8 of them on the enginez
E46 m3 - much more raw and sport oriented. More aftermarket parts. Much less electronics.

Congratz on a rare m5 color though!!!!

Here are some pics after a 3.5hr winter time detail from this morning. The temperatures were far too cold for using real waxes and polish, so I had to settle for spray on stuff from my stash. Not a bad outcome IMO. Can't wait to hit this gorgeous Imola paint with a buffer in the spring

Vaccumed the interior; wiped down: interior, door+trunk jambs/seals/linings, engine bay, wheel arches, sideskirt underbody. Took me 3.5hours but totally worth it. Ignore the messy garage, lol.

Absolutely. It'll be on coilovers and hopefully the custom wheels will be ready, too, for the official debut

Simple stuff. Coilovers, wheels, and some exhaust work. These things barely need anything else. Down the road once I am used to the power, I'll get shorter gearing and software.

Yup! I'm lucky my friend has one of the best E39 M5s in North America in terms of quality mods and condition. It sounds monstrous with a full Supersprint and Eisenmann setup including headers! Too rich for my blood though, lol.

I am surrounded by friends with E46 M3s. Moreover, I've been exposed to the E46 platform for 6 years straight now. My 330 was pretty close to a ral M3 - minus the motor (lol). But I needed something completely different and much more powerful than an E46 M3.

Nice M5, congrats it's a real beauty
i've too been keeping an eye out for an M5, Blue Water metallic or Sterling Grey though. but i quoted this as ofcourse you'd need something more powerful than the M3 since the M5 is over 600 lbs heavier.
but it still is not quicker than an M3 0-60 or in the 1/4 mile. not looking forward to the gas mileage either. but these machines aren't bought with that in mind right
so was that the Columbia Gorge you drove in OR? i've driven that it's incredible

Congrats man! Your E46 was beautiful and I'm sure this will stay in the same shape. The color combo is a dream of mine. I'm sure the previous owner is happy to know it went into good hands.

E46 m3 quicker than the e39 m5 to 60? I really doubt it, they keep up with the new m5.

Now who's delusional?!

Very nice pickup! I thought the paint looked a touch flat in the first few shots, after the detail it looks like you're almost there! I can't wait to see some shots after the full detail.

So noobish question what is the maintenance difference in the m5 and a typical e46 or heck even a typical 540 or 525?

Yup. What an epic road! I don't care much about the actual numbers put down - this is far more fun than an E46 M3 IMO, and I've driven them lots of times. The torque is just brutal and violent in the M5. A stock E46 M3 won't give you that kind of a rush. Not to mention the E39 M5 is so beautifully balanced for the corners, too, despite being nearly 3900lbs (its not over 600 compared to an E46 coupe FYI). The low end TQ makes it a insanely fun car to dance in the corners - lift-off over steer or throttle over steer as you wish. Its just ridiculous amounts of fun. Totally different than the M3.

Thanks bro. Yes, we still keep in touch and he's glad it went to someone who appreciates this rare machine. The car is literally in showroom condition. The techs were drooling over it today - even the block is STILL shiny and silver!

That's because of the crappy photos. It's far from dull, the paint is 9/10 all around and all original. Hardly any chips. I'm going to 3M the entire front end before this car sees much road time.

Not much more to be honest. These are the most reliable out of any E39. M cars are very over-engineered compared to their non-M counterparts.

By the way, 3M does a lot more than tape!
