Ride height too high

Hey all, need help

When I bought my 323ci, it had a relatively high ride height but I didn't pay much attention to it since I wasn't as familiar with the E46 chassis as I am now. When I see stock E46s on the road, they appear to be lower than mine ever was.

I upgraded to a H&R touring cup suspension several months ago and, while the car was lowered, it was still unusually high on the rear axle especially. Keep in mind I have the reinforcement plates up front which add about 3mm to the front ride height. I had a local speed shop install everything.

Today, I finally checked my spring pads to make sure they are not the 15mm "winter" pads. Sure enough, my pads are the standard 5mm variety. It's time I stopped ignoring this.

What could be causing my car to ride so high, both before and after the cupkit install?
How does one mess up suspension installation so that it increases the ride height?

try thinner spring pads. bmw makes them in 5mm, 10mm, 15mm

Pretty sure mine are 5mm right now. Took a look under the car and the pads were very thin.

your pics do look like its higher than it should be. could be your particular rims (no offence) that make it more noticeable, could be my stance-soaked eyes over the years that just assumes every E46 starts with no wheel gap lol.

If it rides fine, and you dont get any strange noises when cornering, there's likely nothing wrong and you're just realizing that an E46 gets sexier when it has larger wheels, and is closer to the ground.

My guess is you have bone stock OEM suspension which would sit even higher than OEM sport suspension kits which may be what you're comparing to when you look at other E46.

again, I have an H&R touring cupkit, so there should be a slight drop at least. But thank you for your responses everyone.

The point is, this is an E46 with a touring cupkit, it SHOULD be lower. Any ideas why not?

Sorry my reading comprehension is useless today I guess. Totally missed the hr touring kit mention.

What size rims are those? Did you start with non sport suspension?

In the front the kit would sit higher if the spring was not properly seated in the strut mount. There's a notch where the springs end should rest. Rears would sit higher if they doubled up the spring pad because they combined your oem plus the kits pad if it came with one.

The rims are 17" and All e46 coupes come with sport suspension standard. The kit didn't include new pads. As for the front, the 3mm added by the strut reinforcement plate might be to blame. It's mostly the rear that needs to drop

I'd like too, but I can't really do that myself (living in college dorms, don't have a 88+ lb.ft. torque wrench). I think I'll take it to a mechanic and see what he makes of it?
