The problem with doing them two at a time is you pay almost the same freight twice depending on the value of the tyres themselves, this may actually prove more expensive. You also run the risk of customs noticing what you're doing and sting you anyway. Last edited by netgun; 11-28-2012 at 04:58 PM. |

I thought the $1000 threshold includes freight? Or you were just lucky to slip through it?

Correct me if im wrong,
but the duty will only apply where the Declared value of the goods is over $1000. I.e. without freight. Duty + other charges will then apply to the value of the goods + freight, if the declared value is over $1000

Total cost for me was $1211 landed
As others above have confirmed I did not pay any additional costs/taxes as the goods themselves were under $1k AUS If they were $1000.05 then I would have to add shipping total ($350) then add 5% customs then 10% GST. These PSS are replacing Bridgestone re11's as ill be using the car for DD now

Unfortunately a set of Michelin PSS to suit M3 19" wheels runs about US$1100 so just over that limit. I don't think two lots of freight would be offset by not paying the duties.

So 1100 + 350 + 72.50 + 152.25 = cheaper then local
I guess you also need to add fitting/balancing from your local shop who you just undercut!

I don't have local pricing but using netgun's numbers:
Sure, I'd rather deal with the locals but when it's of the order of $500-1000 (or even more), I'm not going to be stupid about it. 10-20% more maybe. 100+% is a rip. |

I always get the sender for rims or tyres to send them with an individual invoice e.g 4 tyres at 1200 invoice each tyre at $300.
Never had to pay gst yet (my new rims cost me $2800) |

Rare that all tyres wear at the same rate, especially with staggered set ups which cant be rotated front to rear to even up wear. Thus you typically only need to replace tyres in pairs, which should negate any concerns about exceeding the $1K threshold.

Hey guys,
I am looking at ordering some Hankook Ventus RS-3 tyres from Tire Rack and was wondering whether the case is still current of them not being able to ship to Australia? Of couse it's the manufacturer imposing the restrictions. I was shocked when I got a quote for a set of these tyres from my local reputable tyre shop. Thanks in advance! |

Do you have to email them for international orders? It doesn't seem to come up with Australia in the checkout section of the payment process

Yup, you need to contact them directly for a quote on international orders.

Ok thanks, will do. Is there a specific email I need to contact them on? Or is there a separate page just for enquiries?
Thanks for the assistance! Last edited by Rob32R; 02-12-2013 at 10:12 PM. |

I've dealt with Henry Carlson (Henry@tirerack.com) and Nick Shreve (nick@tirerack.com) before. Both got the job done and answered all questions I had with no fuss.
