M47D20 install info
I am trying to find information on how to put an M47D20 engine into an E46 with a dead motor. This is the 2 liter 4 cylinder that went into the 320d/318d.
Even better would be to find someone who has done this! Any idea where I could look to find this information? I would consider doing this with an E91 too if it is easier. Thanks, Mark |

Upon doing some further research, it looks like the 2003 and 2004 3 series is a "nonconforming" car that is allowed to be imported. I'm sure you would still have to spend the big $$ for an ICI to do this.
I am not a lawyer but my guess is that this only refers to the NHTSA crash testing. To import a 320d you would probably still need to figure out how to deal with emissions testing. For example, here in Salt Lake City you are required to do ODB2 testing which would be impossible in a 320d. I am not sure about the RHD vs. LHD issue. Is anyone else here interested in seriously trying to import one of these? Maybe it would be easier to do 10 of them at a time. Thanks, Mark |
