Yep, looking into that right now, lol.
For the most part, the E46 just needs flap top jack stands. I'm thinking: 2" square, .25" wall aluminum tube outer, 1.5" square bar that slips inside the inner, drilled holes through both for a pin for setting the height, an 8"x8" .25" thick plate for the bottom and a 4"x4" .25" plate for the top pad. Probably about 15 minutes of drilling holes and 45 minutes of welding per. Could probably get quicker with practice. No painting or rust prevention required being that its all 6061. About $42 in materials and fasteners per, leaving about $17.99 for miles labor, and then it's a $59.99 6061 aluminum jack stand that will be very beefy. |

Yeah, it's hard to compete with China. $79.99 for a pair of aluminum jack stands: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...FSTZQgod6ysAlg
$40 for a pair from harbor freight, but they look sketchy as hell: http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-a...nds-91760.html Last edited by mkodama; 11-30-2012 at 02:45 AM. |

Making a jack stand as sketchy as harbor freight, still out of aluminum, I could probably do $19 materials and $15 labor, so $34 per stand. Still doesn't compare to Harbor Freight's $20 per aluminum jack stand.
