On the other hand, I may have to go to the Bay Area soon after all. Christie wants to go up for her birthday (New Year's Eve) and I received a letter from Milpitas PD saying that they have my wallet but I have to personally pick it up.

With the M3 wheel, hot and cold usually don't matter too much. The thin leather ones I have are pretty good at maintaining grip without making my hands sweaty. I also didn't want to ruin the finish on my Momo wheel in the E30, so I actually make good use of them.

Then why are they almost always all leather, and have holes for the knuckles?

Probably some stuffy old tradition. They're not as functional or necessary in a modern automobile as they used to be.

I suppose if the holes actually lined up with your knuckles, they would let you make a fist without stretching the glove out as much.

I think a large part of it is the styling that they are supposed to look like.

I've always wondered why they aren't like my full finger cycling gloves. Thin suede palms and breathable mesh back, but minus the padding. I think the big problem is they don't look old fashioned and expensive enough.

The holes really seem very S&M to me. Like, on the level of ass-less chaps and leather masks.
