Philips "Hue" WIFI Controlled Lighting

Seems kind of cool.

$200 for a starter pack with 3 bulbs and a bridge, then $60 for each additional bulb... Uhhh, cool, but not THAT cool.

From a technology standpoint it is cool, but I have zero use for changing the color of my lighting or turning on lights from a smartphone.

Great Point, but do you mean you have no need to change the colors of your lighting? Or specifically with your smart phone?
The appeal for me is the idea of changing my ambient lighting on a whim, not so much as to what is used to change it.

I had zero need for a smartphone before getting one, but four years later, and I wouldn't want to give it up.
Do I need it? No.
Do I enjoy it? Absolutely.

While don't have any use for it just yet, I can see incorporating this in a remodel. It's a heck of a lot simpler to wire than using light switches to control zones.

That is nothing compared to lighting control packages of the past.

My small home has $5,000-$10,000 in Lutron Lighting Control.

Every switch was $200, plus brain $500, plus repeaters at $300 each, plus remotes at $300 each, etc.

And that is still using regular bulbs

Amazing technology breakthrough assuming the bulbs are 100k hr led.

Probably save $20-$100 per month on electricity over standard switches and bulbs.

It is much more than changing colors. It is changing lighting output and moods.

Hitting movie mode and the lights dim to 25% to watch the Walking Dead.

Having your exterior door and interior front hall lights ramp up to 50% at 7pm ever night and ramp down to 0 every morning at 7am.

etc.

Once you have that kind of control, you will never be able to live without it.

What it really nice about it is that you dont have to replace switches. No electrician, no issues in apartments, etc.

If it is a Zigbee product, it should work quite well as each bulb would be its own repeater.

I have a GU-10 LED bulb that color changes and comes with a remote made by HitLights. It's pretty cool. I only have the 3w version, should've grabbed the 5w model but the 3w was on sale for $10.

I'm looking to get a LED light panel made for DJ lighting so I can do nice color washes on my walls.

Sick.... If it was. 50% cheaper, Id replace every light in my house.

I got this for $150, American DJ: LED Profile Panel RGB.

It's cool and lights up my place well with some great colors and has a great light spread.
