I don't do much of anything to take care of them. I'll polish them once a year or so, but other than that they're good to go.

Nice purchase. While you don't HAVE to wait before polishing leather, it makes sense on rugged boots.

To protect them, Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Protector and Montana Pitch Blend are the top products in my mind. I think you'll be good either way.

When you do finally want to polish them, I would use a cream paste instead of a wax paste. The wax paste will give them a finish more like a dress shoe, which I assume you don't want. Instead, spread on some paste, let it sit for a few, and then brush the shoe with a horsehair brush. It'll be a healthy, but not shiny, finish.

Lastly, name + occupation is not PII by any legal standard

No, you can (maybe should) apply the leather protector before your first wear, assuming you're talking about the Obenauf's or Montana Pitch Blend.

As for PII, we'll accept any combination of name + SSN, driver's license number, taxpayer ID number, credit card number + authorization code, etc. We will also accept protected health information. Welcome to YMWDLOM.

I have a pair of blue Rivets, brown herringbone Rudy (part of a suit), Air Force flannel Rudy (part of last FF), and navy twill Rudy (part of last FF).

They all need to be tailored - hemmed and taken in half an inch at the waist. Can't wait to get that done.
