Time for a new car

Hey guys,

So over the past week my car got totaled. At least I believe it did. Still waiting for insurance to check it out.

I was on I90 on the left lane and traffic came to a stop. A few seconds later hyundai came from behind and crash into the rear passenger bumper. In total it was a 4 accident. I'm glad that the car took the hit well however kind of sad that I put in so much work into the car.

Sorry man, but it looks totaled.

How was your experience in your e46? Thinking about sticking with it or getting into something a little different ?

Got to say I love the e46. Looking to get another one. Probably a manual this time around. Not sure if I would still stick with a XI or go ZHP yet though. Any ideas or thoughts?

I would try and find a well maintained manual 330, whether it happens to be Zhp or not depends on what's available. I went from an auto e46 to a manual e46 too and I don't regret it for a second. Much more enjoyable driver experience.

If the all wheel drive isn't a must for you, I would try and find a zhp personally, but it might be tough finding a good condition one without too many miles for 10k. Then again I haven't been paying attention to zhp prices so who knows !

Good luck sir, and what ever you do don't settle for an auto

My Ride: 2002 330i
My 2002 330i w/95k miles just got totalled 3 weeks ago on the pike. The other insurance company took full responsibility and offered me 10,400 + state taxes on the car. I fought them a little harder and I was about to get an even 12k out of them.

I just bought myself a 2002 540i 6M for 8k. I'm sad to be leaving the E46fanatics family after having owned two E46s, but the 540 was a pretty awesome car to drive. I drove a few ZHPs and I thought to myself that I needed a bit of a change. Since you were in the same price range as me, I can tell you that you should be able to find a good number of E46 330xi/i's out there with around 100k miles. I drove an E60 545i with 120k miles which was pretty sweet as well. There are some good deals on RWD BMWs during this time of the year if you're interested.

Hope your search goes well! Happy car shopping!

BTW - remember to grab stuff out of your old car. Aftermarket parts and other...easily removed parts... Anyone want to buy a MAF for a 330?

Well I'm not sure what to do about fighting for a higher amount for the car though. Any advice on that? I'm glad that you like the new ride though. I'm actually looking everywhere for a Zhp with all packages. Found a few here and there but I don't think I would have enough for them. We shall see though.

I got the NADA retail value for my car and did a little research online for similar cars. When the insurance company called me with their offer, I told them that retail on my car was 12k and that wasn't including the fact my car was meticulously maintained and I had done a bunch of preventative maintenance on the car that they hadn't taken into account since most cars on dealer lots would not be as well maintained. They told me that maintenance isn't figured into the settlement because they assume all cars on the road are properly maintained.

I then hit them with a bunch of cars.com listings for cars that were priced around what I was expecting. They later told me they could only offer me 10,800 for my car + taxes but they're write me a check for $500 for "personal loss" because i was adamant that my car was exceptionally rare and hard to find.

My tip is to be firm with the adjuster, but don't be a jerk. They're just trying to do their jobs. Make sure you have a good amount of evidence to back up why you should get the extra money.

And of course, make sure they're giving you a suitable rental car for the time being.

FYI, I drove two ZHPs during my search. There's a ZHP in Framingham at European Engineering - don't waste your time with that one. It's been beat to death and priced too high.

I did find another ZHP in Braintree that was very very nice. I would have pulled the trigger if I hadn't already owned a black on black E46 a few years ago.

Thanks a lot. There are so many options right now for ZHP.

The black one in braintree is from bespokeauto. However I might go with another forum member's e46 in Jersey. I don't really like dealing with dealers too much since it's a hassle most times.

The one at European Engineering does look great as well. Not really sure how it is beat to death though.

Both prices seem a bit too high if you ask me. Ranging about 13-14k. Then again I'm not sure what the price should be a for a 100k ZHP.

I'd be weary with European Engineering, they sold me my car, definitely paid to much for it but that's my fault as I was in a bind to get a car and this was my first BMW, they don't do thorough inspections on the cars.

I drove the one at Bespoke Auto. I will say (having sold cars for a few years myself), they're pretty standup guys. No high pressure sales pitch. They let me take the car out on my own as well for the test drive.

That ZHP is a really nice one. The thing was very tight and everything was working except for the power mirrors for some strange reason.
