My tires are not hitting the fender. It almost sounds like the spring itself.

First, I would suggest removing your $400 Rokkor suspension and throw it away. Your car will be much better off. If that's not an option, check to see if the sway bar endlinks are tightened to spec.

Your wheel is hitting your strut, you need spacers.
I'm 100% sure that's what it is. |

The wheel would hit the strut at all angles of turning then which would still not create a knocking noise.
Is it a repeated knocking noise that happens as you turn the wheel? Does it sound anything like a "boing" sound? Last edited by subieworx; 12-05-2012 at 07:17 AM. |

Mine did that, only when I turned is when it made a noise. It sounds like grinding.

unless your struts are flopping around under there your wheels will never touch your strut just when turning. If they touch, they would have always been touching. Try turning your wheel and going in circles. If your wheels are truly touching your struts you will see and/or smell smoke.

Let's run through this with some methodical thought here. A few questions first: 1) The spring perch atop the coilover, what style was it? Meaning did it have a detent for the coil spring forthe end of the coil spring to seat in, or is it flat. 2) The top perch, does it spin, or is it solidly affixed? 3) The strut bearing, what condition was it in? If the strut bearings were re-installed, how many miles were on those bearings. Did you install new one's? You see, all these things matter because it affects the answer. Without knowing these things, it is difficult to diagnose your problem. My shot in the dark is this: the strut bearing is not functioning as it should, meaning allowing rotation; this causes the spring perch to rotate in the assmebly; it's my guess there is a detent for the spring perch and since the perch is rotating around, it makes the spring pop out of the detent and when it falls back into the detent, the spring does what a spring does, it'll unload energy and wire end of the coil spring falls into the detent making a knocking noise.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes it's a repeating noise and it sounds like a boing. |

it's your wheels hitting your strut, i had the exact same problem. take off your front wheels your strut will be all scratched up just like your wheels lip. Just buy 10mm spacers and you'll be fine.

I made a video of the noise i'm hearing, it's not this best video but you can hear the knocking and there's also a squeaking noise also.

take off your front wheels when you get the chance and post a picture of the strut and of the inner wheels.

It sounds like the spring is binding. I would take them apart and reassemble them to be 100% sure the spring was seated correctly upon installation.

Here are the pictures I couldn't get a good picture of the strut but I didn't see any marks on the strut itself. I took pictures of some marks I seen inside of the rim so i'm pretty sure it's not my rim hitting my strut.

I had a similar problem like yours. Sent from my LG-P509 using Bimmer App
