On the side, towards the bottom of the front struts is a metal nub or nipple. Does this sit atop the perch to stop the strut from sliding further down? Or does it slide through the opening in the perch that compresses when you tighten the perch bolt down? Or maybe Im wrong on both assumptions Thanks

That nub needs to slide all the way down in the notch of the hub until it can't go any farther, then tighten the assembly onto the strut.

So just to confirm, you're talking about the opening on the perch that closes with the tightening of the (18mm) perch pinch bolt ?
