Not exactly sure. I think they're working on February or March, but I tend to focus on my deadline, and this one's a quick turnaround.

The ideal shopping list being:
Imported w463 chassis
Mercedes OM606A I6 diesel
Holset HX35 Turbo
Myna fuel pump
711.117, 711.113, or 711.660 6 Speed manual transmission

All that and you could have yourself a diesel manual 6 speed G-wagen perfect for some real off-roading, get's great gas mileage (see thread here for gearing anaylsis) that should get you in the mid 20's or higher highway mpg. With the Holset turbo that'll also up the power around 250-300hp, same as the 335d.

I was just suggesting the 250-300hp range because you aren't compromising reliability and longevity to get to that power level, something which I would consider important in an off-road vehicle of this sort. I mean isn't the whole point of one of these things for going to desolate places where help isn't near?

Well... you did talk about basically custom building a truck off a chassis, and putting a non-stock Turbo on it. I don't think it was so unfair. And even if you were to go the max HP route, I assume that dyno is in crank HP? Doesn't look like a legitimate whp dyno plot so I'd assume...

Regardless you have unkown specs, less torque and a bit more horsepower. There's no telling what the 35d engine would do without it's emission system or with bigger turbos. I'm surprised it hasn't got more attention in that regard.

I can't really bring myself to like anything Mercedes is pushing out right now, short of the SLS. And if I had 200k to spend on a car, there are several other things I'd buy first

Honestly I just pulled up the first hx35 high horsepower dyno I could find, so I haven't a clue if that dyno is wheel or crank, and I'm too lazy to investigate it now. However, I do know that the 606 is consistently capable of of getting in to the 400+hp range.

It's also worth noting everything I've listed isn't custom at all. Aside from the turbo, all the components listed are OE Mercedes, and they're all plug and play, so it's much more of a refurbishment or reassembly than custom build. This is in direct contrast with any sort of bmw engine swap, see the MITe46 s54 swap for reference on that... The bmw ECU's are very dependent on a complete set of sensor inputs, making it a wiring nightmare. In addition to that, the N57 has never been fitted to a manual transmission, so your only option would be to use the auto transmissions they come with, which are once again very dependent on a complete set of sensor inputs (wheel speed will be a particularly big pain in the ass). I used to daily a 335d and loved it, but those engines don't take particularly well to transplantation!
