Port and polish head?
I believe my HG is leaking, when I take my head off would it be worth sending it off to be ported and polished on my 2001 e46 325i? Maybe even stroke the motor? What do you guys think?

If your head gasket is leaking, you may have bigger problems at play.
Did it overheat? |

I think porting could really tie together a bunch of performance mods in these cars. ie. Cams, headers, intake, exhaust. But, it would have to be so subtle. I think most of it would come from slight radius changes, de-shrouding valves and a multi angle valve job. You'd really need a spare head, a flow bench, a lot of experience and a Serdi machine or equivalent.

You could buy a head from VAC.
Or contact German Auto Solutions. I know they expressed a tiny bit of interest in the idea a few months ago, which is more than anyone else! You should PM or e-mail PEI330 Last edited by Grande D; 12-08-2012 at 10:56 AM. |

I'd love to know what people are finding really helps flow on these heads. You'd be doing all of people thinking about doing a port job a huge favour.

Ha, I'm sorry if the Queen's English offends. In that case... Favor :p
**Edit** I'm sorry about this but I couldn't resist. Granted that I'm German in background and have no real ties to British English (though in the end it is their language), I wanted to see what origin each spelling came from. What I found on the grammarist.com website I just could not resist posting. "Favor vs. favour Favor and favour are different spellings of the same word. Favor is the preferred spelling in American English. Favour is preferred in all other varieties of English."

Cleaned up the head, looks much better i will probably degrease it one more time tomorrow. On a side not i painted the stand looks less crap now. Here is a pic.
![]() I have to get two nuts to pull the studs out, they were left in when i bought it, does anyone know what thread it is? Innards the top needs more cleaning as you can see. ![]() Some shots my friend got while were steeming and degreasing it. ![]() ![]() ![]() The whole thing was rinsed out about ten times until the water coming out was not soapy and then it was tediously dried with a heat gun at a low setting for the inside and the outside was wiped. I'll repeat the process tomorrow, i want this thing clean!
