From what i understand, to come into EOD from almost anywhere is doable, as its critically manned, but if your job is already a high demand critical job, you might actually have to EAS and then switch. Ive heard of a guy that did that a few years ago as the SEALs wouldnt let him transfer. So i dunno how the fly boy stuff works, BUT, expect to catch a lot of flack if you do, as it seems most techs dont like flyboys.... at least, thats the vibe i get.
We lost a tech last year too that was a RECON Marine then went EOD. so its doable, but with what it costs to become a pilot, i dont think they'd like your idea of abandoning them.

Id say a good 50%-60% of the students here are lat moves.
Marine corps you have to be a E4 about to be E5 or E5, so all of them are coming from somethign else. Some of the Navy guys are lat moves, the rest seem to be BUD/S washouts or pipe liners. AF and Army have boots as well as lat moves, but mostly boots. id guess 3-4 lat moves for every boot.

Also, as a zero, your EOD career is short, Corps doesnt have many, most were enlisted then warrants, then full zeros. AF, you have to an Engineering degree im told, because they fall under the Engineering side, and blah blah....
Army officers seem to come from wherever, and Navy, im not so sure how their officer side works, but what i see and hear from talking to them, is you do EOD from 01-like 03, and then when youre about to pin 04, if you dont get lucky and get a high position in a EOD type deal, they send you back to the engineering side of the house.

There are very few crab wearers that are 04 and higher from what i see. As its just a short path for EOD officers, and not a lot of need for Majors and higher it seems.
True on most counts...There are 2 ADAF EOD O5's that I know of (both CE Commanders and 1 is female). Both really good people and take care of their troops really well!

PS: Can we ban Flash from all threads that have to do with the military?

I vote for a mod to delete all posts (including my own) that led this thread astray

^ yeah, i heard the AF has like 5 total O6 or higher crab wearers.. I dont pay attention to that stuff much, but it seems most branches take the same path with EOD officers...

There really isnt that many positions in the job field for O4+ EOD guys/gals

Did the navy just decomissioned the USS Enterprise though? CVN-65 right? I have a few friends who used to fly out of CVN-70 and CVN-72
What carrier battle group are you with now?

EOD is one of the most technical job and their graduation rate is very low due to the high standards of exams/test requirements but good luck on your "lateral transfer" though

Are you fawking kidding me? I never implied it would be as simple as just signing some papers and poof you're in. I said I was looking into it. I'm not telling people "hey, I'm switching to EOD after my sea tour." Also don't you ever question my integrity towards my job. Maybe I feel the need to do something that has a greater impact than the mission of my current platform.

My buddy did a "lateral transfer" from flying to being a Foreign Affairs Officer. Which did require a lot of paper work and the requirement to learn a new language at the Defense Language Institute.

So how about you sit behind your desk, keep playing COD and shut the fawk up. Maybe you would gain a little more respect on this forum if you were a bit more humble and had actual real world experience instead of being a keyboard warrior.
