I think themeing is going downhill on Androids, not that it really ever got as much attention as on the iPhone anyways. You can already add widgets, change backgrounds, lockscreen, and change appearance to an extent right out of the box, most people don't bother with anything else. The third party stuff is mostly dumb looking and overdone/gaudy. I haven't seen near as much of it around with ICS, and JB hasn't been around long enough yet. Good riddance really. The plainness of stock iOS has actually prompted a better response. People want it to look better, and it does. With Android, people just want it to look different, which many times means worse.

I like my ICS theme (since i'm stuck on GB) but i wish i could go back to stock CM7 without losing the other goodies of this build They removed the original ADW launcher though.
