^^^This!
I definitely noticed a difference. I ran a 400 recently in 48 seconds! I was never that quick before. The fastest I had ever run it was 53-ish seconds.

My 100 and 200 are so so but I just die at around 300m. I dont know why since my lung capacity is pretty good on other stuff.... I think I'm too fat.... |

Thanks! I was actually surprised to be honest. When I ran it in 53 seconds, I figured that I couldn't get any faster because that was a "perfect" run. Granted, I burn out after that 400 though. I run the 200 segment the best, but I start to lose speed during the last 100. It's funny, I start off moderately, pick up LOTS of speed around the turn and through majority of the back straight, slow it down around the last turn and I'm barely making it through the final straight. I need to work on my approach! My legs literally swell up to the size of melons.

You'll probably do better on the track because the track has rebound attributes to protect the knees.

Damn. And I thought I melted the pavement under my feet? I mean, I hit slow-pitch softballs like a girl but I can outrun ANY ground ball to first. You're f'ing fast man.

What would front squats do that back squats don't?
I thought people with no injuries/back issues don't need to do front squats as long as they do back squats. Last edited by z00; 12-10-2012 at 04:34 PM. |

I ran the 53 second 400 on a dirt track; I ran the 48 second 400 on a standard track with rebound attributes. I guess I should run the 400 again on the same dirt track to see what the "real" net gain actually was.

As for what they do differently; front squats are quad dominant and back squats are hamstring/glute dominant.

I see, I read a whole study where athletes wore sensors and $hit, back squat was the better overall workout. I don't bother with front squats because of the load on the shoulders.
I guess since I play soccer, snowboard, mountain bike, I should start doing front squats. I'll alternate legs squats workouts. |

and front squats shouldnt put ANY load on your shoulders. it rests around your shoulders, but just because its on them doesnt mean there is any negative load on it.

I was doing back / front squats back-to-back and I could literally feel the difference in muscles worked, front squats remind me of a leg press burn
