And always remember what Dean Martin once said on his variety show: "Marriage is the best way to spend your time, until the right one comes along..."
(Sometimes, after 27 years, the right one is still there beside you, but you just never know, do you?) ![]()

They did it for societal pressures, they have been dating for years so "why not", a kid was involved, financial security, etc etc. I don't think many couples are fully independent individuals that can stand up and support themselves without the help of the other in way way or another. I think that if you and your partner have the ability to stand up and be completely independent of each other, and CHOOSE to date, it's a whole different ball game. There just aren't a lot of these out there, the ones that are are typically some form of a "power couple" |

Why does a couple have to be some kind of "power couple" in order to have a successful marriage? Just re-read your post and saw the second "are" in your last sentence. Disregard.

1: How much do you have in common? This a real big one. TV, Sports, Movies, Food likes, does she like cars? ETC 2: Is she lazy? Really think this one out. How long has she had her current job? Is she a job hopper? Unless you make choo choo money, you need to make sure she can help you both make it if it leads to marriage. It takes a lot of money to survive in this world. I learned this the hard way. 3: Make sure and I stress this big time she has no past issues. Talk to her parents if it gets serious. I learned this one the hard way. 4: How does she keep house? Again if you walk into her apartment or room and its messy, you better believe that is how it is going to be if you move in together, or get married. 5: Does she have debts? Do really want this going into marriage? No!!! 6: Is she a known cheater? Ask her about her past, see if it seems like she is hiding anything. Most chicks are easy to read. 7: Is she close to her family? This will tell you a lot about a chick. 8: Looks and this should be your last thing on the list. I am not saying marry a dog or a fat chick, just make sure all of the above is in check first. You do not want to end up in divorce like did. I was to young and so was my x wife to get married. I wish I would have listened to this same advice back when I knew it all. |

I've been with my fiancee for 11 years. We haven't gotten married because neither of us want to spend the money on a wedding right now.
I think being together for over a year is the way to go before you dive in. I will get married and feel like I am giving up nothing. If you feel differently then don't. |

We had just our parents at the wedding itself, in a historic building downtown here, then a bit more family, close friends for dinner afterwards. It was a great event, just what we really wanted. We still thought about the big wedding, but figured why bother spending the money, and realized that what we had already had was what was important to us.
