Yep!
It will be interesting to see how they take the shortest book of the series and stretch it into 3 movies...

I think you'll see a lot more of the lore and backstory than in the other 3 movies.

Nine movies of Roland chasing the Man in Black across a barren desert. Almost as entertaining as a Benji movie!

Alright guys.. sorry for the delayed response.
I just wanted to make sure I don't give a quick knee jerk reaction to the new film. But, after having thought about what I saw for a day now I would advise that you don't spend your hard earn money on this film, especially the 3D version (which is what was screened. There was no visible benefit in the new HFR 48fps nor was there any dramatic use of 3D. Especially when you compare it to something like "Avatar") This film just didn't have the energy as the first LotR (or the trilogy as a whole) nor did it have anything new, I felt like I was watching the same scenes over again with more slapstick humor added in for no reason. Some early reviews have stated the movie as way too long and I have to agree > It was a hour and a half way too long and never developed into anything to get overly excited about. The fact they are making this a trilogy also is truly a tragedy. I'm afraid to say it but it really did felt like "Star Wars : Phantom Menace"... |

I really wanted to give a good review of the film but just couldn't think of any positive merits...
The only honest/positive opinion I could give is perhaps Mr. Jackson should have made This movie first. Cause with 13 dwarves (who behaved like they came from that SnowWhite fairytale), a bumbling hobbit, an old wizard and another ( I hate to say it - Jar Jar like) Radagast it really didn't make for an exciting group of "adventurers" going on ANOTHER excruciating Long walk. (with silly sing-songs along the way) Be warned - if you go into the theater expecting the type & level of fights/battle scenes we enjoyed in "Two Towers" or "RotK" - that kind of intensity... there were none to be found in the "Hobbit", not even close. |

Yeah, I understand.. true sadness. I really liked P. Jackson films, but in this screening I actually dosed off a few times (that's rare for me.) And, after I left this screening - I just felt that same "blah" feeling I had after watching "Phantom Menace"... Like WTH happened to the directing?? At the very least I expected an adult PG movie, but got instead a very soft Disney G. It really was a feeling of over reliance on 3D technology than any artistic directing. There just wasn't much "new" energy on screen from the acting. Most of the scenes felt like lame rehashes from the 1st LotR (or it just didn't make sense why they even shown them.) That's harsh criticism I know, but if anyone else watches this film I'm sure they will agree. I'm sorry.. to me it was very much like the weak remake of "Clash of the Titans".

I'm sad now. I had high hopes for this movie, and I'm even just about done re-reading the book.
Where did they drop the "to be continued" in the story?
