Gift ideas for your boss at work?

In the office environments I've worked in, that's an expensive enough item to be inappropriate coming from a subordinate to a boss.

It might not be inappropriate coming from a group of employees to their boss. Or it may be that the incomes in your office are substantial enough that a $200 to $300 gift is OK. Only you can be the judge of that.

Frankly, when I was a manager, I didn't want gifts at all from my employees, and if they insisted, I thought they should be very modest. To me, it's weird for employees to spend money on their boss when the boss is the one "giving" them the money to begin with. It also puts the boss in a funny position, like if the boss gives bigger raises and bonuses next year, the boss might get better gifts.

Well, I'm in a small office, he's my direct boss and it would be 2% of my monthly take home.

I probably shouldn't get him anything. he's the guy who wears the one pair of shoes, same belt/buckle every day.

This may be just me, but rather than gifts, I preferred my employees just give me a card with some genuine, meaningful, honest thoughts written inside.

I was fortunate to have mostly very good relationships with my employees, so what made me smile is when they'd take 30 minutes one night to sit down and put pen to paper and express what it meant to them to work with/for me.



Now that I think about it, one of my employees had immigrated from another country, and one year she gave me a gift of a traditional kind of candle from her home country. It was not expensive at all, but it was really kind of sweet because she explained what it was used for and a little of the history behind it. I am always curious about other cultures and countries, so that was kinda cool.

Am I the only one disturbed by the fact that you stare at your boss's belt buckle every day?

Anyways, I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't give your bosses presents. Their job is screw you over as much as possible without making you quit or compromising your productivity. You know this and they know this - so it's just business. But if you give them presents, it all of a sudden becomes personal and they will feel guilty for screwing you over . . . and the only way for them to get rid of that guilt is to convince themselves that you are such a bad worker that you don't deserve to be treated better. At least that's how my mind works. Give your boss a Christmas card with a picture of your kids/pets on it and leave it at that.

You could have saved a lot of time by just asking at a liquor store about a good bottle of wine. But now you got 2 days of attention here and we are still on the bottle of wine or a blowjob according to some suggestions.

If you earn half of what you say you do then a $100 bottle of wine is going to be his cooking wine for his animals so why bother.

So considering that I think the best gift would be to drop all the comments about fakies and bolt-ons and give your boss a card with an inscription saying you are no longer a walking sexual harassment case.

Maybe pen and pencil, but I don't know who uses a pencil anymore.

And I'm not talking Montblanc. A nice upper end Cross or Parker; something that they'll use everyday. Should be easy enough to get an idea as to what color (gold, silver, black).
