you need a new clutch. try double clutching and it should build enough pressure to get it into gear. i had this problem on my audi and a new clutch solved the problem.

Will it go into all the gears if the engine is off?

You might be low on the fluid in your clutch master cylinder. If you are, you need to find out why it leaked out. I swear, you kids kill me. You know all about the light mods, and wheel and altered suspension, but have no clue as to what makes your car operate. Get a Bentley manual, and read it.

Then your clutch is the issue.

Throwout bearing would screa if bad.
Clutch disk wont make any diff if bad(apart from not getting you anywhere , but you do seem to have power to the tranny as it grinds gears)
Pressure plate would alow you to shift , just not go anywhere.
Clutch master/slave/hose would make the pedal feel very wierd/drop to the floor.

OP : If you put the car in gear while off , can you start the car in first gear and drive ? (Turn car off , put car in 1st , turn key and car moves?)

If so then something with the clutch manuovering system is bad , if not then clutch assembly is bad.

By reading his post, and the majority of the posts that deal with something other then bolt on mods. It is not rocket science. All you have to do is to look at the spelling and choice of words and punctuation. It is not difficult.

to double clutch just push the clutch in twice before you shift it just builds up more pressure. most likely your pressure plate needs to be switched. on my audi it got so bad i would have to pump the clutch like 348563485 times for it to go into gear. when you come to a stop light just pump the clutch like 5 times and it should go into gear easy.

Im reviving this thread.

This problem is not your clutch, it could in fact be your slave cylinder. Im going through this now to and my mechanic says its the clutch master cylinder that is causing these issues. My slave cylinder wasn't leaking but I replaced it anyway cause my car has 165,000 miles.

But now there is an issue it seems that BMW has an updated part. Furthermore its hard to find and requires some sort of adapter to make it work. I need to research this and see what I find
