My understanding of quantum computings is that ANYthing can be computed just by using one piece of the puzzle. Quantum computers can do that on such an astronomicaly different scale than a supercomputer that it is hardly comparable.

Anyone who has watched Dr. Who and the regeneration cube(pandorica?) is familiar with the concept.

Just did some light reading on quantum computing. While they are substantially more powerful and can take advantage of substantially more data, it still doesn't explain how they can create something from nothing.

How is it possible to accurately generate a million random pixels from one random pixel without data error?

Also, Dr. Who is not a scientific journal...

Which is why I said concept. I've read it in articles before it as well.

I'm still looking around but this might be related to what he's doing. In this example they have full frames of video and the computer predicts what the successive frames will be based on what it saw prior.

Note: "sparse in the***65279; time domain" = "relatively few pixels per second"

I'm still trying to wrap my head around it but they're somehow relating quantum annealing to pulling information from random bits of video.

Scientists grow stable stem cells from urine in half the time it takes from blood:

Urine is pretty amazing stuff: It can power everything from personal generators to plasma thrusters in space. But the power of pee isn’t limited to generating energy; new research proves that we can actually make human brain cells from urine. Scientists in China have begun experimenting with neurons that have been converted from cells present in human urine, which could have some major implications for the future of stem cell research.


Researchers aren’t instantly transforming pee into brain cells, but instead isolating the kidney epithelial cells that are present in everyone’s urine. With the kidney epithelial cells as a base, the scientists are slowly converting them into pluripotent stem cells–the “magic” cells that can be grown into any human tissue.

It usually takes scientists about three and a half weeks to grow stem cells in the lab, using tissue biopsies or blood samples, but these new pee cells take only twelve days to grow the coveted pluripotent cells. The project, under the guidance of Duanqing Pei and the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, was able to grow stable stem cells from urine, a feat not achieved in the past. Within four weeks, the team grew functioning neurons.

The pee-based stem cells were much more stable than those created from blood and biopsies, and they grew in half the time. If these cells prove effective it could be a huge step forward for stem cell research, because scientists could simple harvest convertible cells by having donors pee in a cup instead of performing invasive procedures.

^ It's incredible to think that something built by humans is way out there orbiting a distant planet and sending back pictures.

More incredible is the fact that both Voyager probes are still active and sending back data from the farthest fringes of the solar system.

That is absolutely gorgeous.

While its a neat concept, wheres the practicality? Military use I suppose, but do we need a bunch of invisible people walking around?

I guess it would be good for bank robberies, theft, murder, etc.

Then we're going to need a bunch of new laws regarding when and where you can wear your invisibility clothing. And of course this will only effect the law abiding citizens.

Imagine if you had an air force or a field full of soldiers and armored tanks cloaked invisibly coming towards you. .....yikessss

Or you could use the cloak for duck and deer hunting..

I want to know what Jupiter and Saturn look like from Mars.

It must be cool to live on a planet like Saturn or Jupiter and have 35, 40 moons.

Or live on a planet with rings like Saturn or Jupiter.
