It was said that engine bay heat was causing the coils to fail so people developed vented covers since the solid covers trapped heat. No need to waste money on a vented cover when you can just remove the solid one to let the heat dissipate.

Interesting. The coils tend to go out on N54s also which is known to run hot, I wonder if it's related.
