Lack of bleeding implies air in the system, which IS an actual overheating issue. Such airpockets can cause localized damage to the engine. A sensor failing is not an actual overheating issue. Why don't you plug a BMW scanner on your car and see if the sensor has failed?

If you read later in the thread it was discovered that the entire cooling system was not replaced...most of it yes, but all of it, no.

I would like to also mention that people are describing the symptoms manifesting with the onset of cold temperatures.
I am going to rephrase that as:
The symptoms are manifesting when the owners are turning on the heat.

You can have air in the system, and potentially, never know about it, until you finally need to turn on the heat.

I just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks for the feedback but you must have noticed an air of sarcasm in my posting. I know. I normally resist the need to respond. It was more a comment on the "replace everything" philsophy. Not for the first time I admit.

no i just added 50 50 mix and am going to see if it hit the ground here in a min my fluid is going some were and i just bleed the system so could be air bubble

That would be an incorrect observation, at least in my situation. I have been using my heat steady on full since I bought the car, it is only manifesting now that the temp is REALLY cold. Which would point more towards some sort of electrical contact/sensor issue.

I will bleed my system just for the hell of it anyway, it can't hurt anything.

Majestic- make sure you post back if you solve your problem, but I'm guessing we have different issues if you are loosing coolant.

k it was lil low and some fluid on the ground so i topped it off and it never overheated weird i have no idea what its going

so im not sure what heat sensor to get guys or if i should get one
maybe its just the cold

k so now i have new issue with my 01 330 ci its throwing code on and off but when i put comp up to it it says no code and now it idles really bad and cuts out whole time i am on the gas any ideas last time i fixed the coolant prob with a thermostat and new crank sensor was needed car was ruining like a dream tell now

Have you done everything in my sig engine related? JFOJ, cooling, etc?

for the one that goes to the gauge. number 3 but that's for 323i, it's probly the same for the 330 but make sure you look for your model to confirm then go to autohausaz it like 9 bucks or autozone has it for like $16.

This could be a lot of things. Could be a large air leak in the intake system as Mango mentioned. Fuel pump going bad, spark. It's throwing a check engine light but no code comes up? Are you showing 1/4 tank or lower on your fuel gauge?

ya no code and im at half tank on fuel gauge

Then I would check for cracked vacuum hose, cracks in intake boot, maf. Then I would start looking at fueling/spark/compression. If the check engine light flashes on and off and doesn't throw a code, this would also lead me to think there might be an issue with your ecu or an electrical issue.

no its a camshaft sensor it finely read a code thanks now just got to figure if its the intake or the exhaust i am leaning towards intake

ok update on my 01 330ci any ideas on this i replaced both sensors camshaft position sensors exhaust and intake of course those went away now its reading a p1345 cod misfire cylinder 2 with fuel cut-off please any ideas would be helpful i been chasing this prob for while now just ready to have it resolved thank you
