If I'm not mistaken, 996 Turbo rotors are either 328mm or 330mm and E46 330 brakes are 325mm. E46 M3 brakes are also 325mm, but 3mm wider.
The brakes on the stock 330 are MASSIVE and are more than up to the task. Why go through all the trouble to introduce more unsprung weight and little to no braking difference??

Ok and what does that mean? Toyota Sequoias have four-piston calipers too. E9X M3 has single piston. The 135i has six pistons but the 1M, AFAIK, re-uses the M3's single piston.
My point is more is not always better. This has to do with contact surface area/pad size more than OMG BRAKING POWAR.

I've done what you are searching on my non m.
Bought the calipers, brackets and brake lines from rallyroad. The owner Eric Coulier is a great guy and will crarify any doubt that you have. For the front i use 996 calipers (996 351 425 & 426), M3 CSL rotors (345x28) and brackets for non m. I haven't gone for the rear yet but you need 996 rear calipers (996 351 421 and 422) and m3 e46 rear discs, the bracket is the same that the e36 rear one (Eric told me that). that if you have a 330, but if you have a 325 let's say you need also the complete brake setup of a 330 or m3 or you will loose the hand brake. The inner diameter of a m3 disc is simmilar to a 330 wich are bigger than the rest of the e46 family 328, 325 and so on. Last edited by cuprafenix; 12-23-2012 at 08:27 PM. |

Then every time you need brakes, you'll have a more difficult or expensive time sourcing parts.
Added complexity, cost, and weight all for negligible gains you'll never realistically use all cause "you need brakes." If you want projects to do, PM me, I'll give you at least 5 pages. ![]() Stock 330 brakes are WAY WAY WAAAAAAY more than adequate.

If mine was a 330 I wouldn't change the brakes. But my discs where 300mm and needed changing, so I went ahead. The cost for me of putting a 330 brake setup or this one would be more or less the same. The advantage is that you dont have to buy all at once. One month you buy the calieps, the other the discs etc. |

He wants to do it, and it's his decision to do it, so answer the question he asked and don't sit there and criticize him on choosing to do something that you wouldn't do.

+1 Its human nature to hate what you dont or cant understand. Modding cars will always come with some resistance especially from those who think that the way they did their car is the only way cars should be done, individuals with no vision or imagination. We call them cookie cutter lovers in the modding world. But then again thats what you get in an open forum.

thanks for all the info on the brakes guys, all been a huge help. i love doing cool stuff to my cars and was wanting to do a little bit of stuff to my 330ci but not a lot cause i also have a fc3s mazda rx7 with a 1jz-gte in it thats has brembos on it and loved it, just dont wanna cough up another huge pricey kit for the bmw so looked for other ways, seems like keeping th stock would be better for me at this point just wanted to know how hard the Porsche conversion was and it seems straight forward and available as long as you know what parts to use, thanks guys

Hello- could you tell me please if you needed to use spacers with ur brembo calipers to get them to clear the wheels? I have 18" MV2 wheels and would like to know if spacers are needed to get them to fit. Thanks
