I could be mistaken, but I believe the F30 335i has an 8-speed automatic as well. Where as the E90 335i with the N55 did not.

Because an 8 speed automatic is going to increase 0-60 and 0-100 times by 2 or 3 seconds?? no...fractions of a second are saved with these additional shifts.

I'll happily drive my N54 e90 while those folks in the F30 328i with 8 speed auto's and plastic oil pans can enjoy their lovely automobiles.

They all have that loud ticking noise at idle. It's because of the direct injection.

The numbers between the N54 335i and the N20 328i are almost identical. If you want to rationalize to yourself why your vehicle is better then it's your prerogative.

Also, I've read the hydraulic lifters contribute to that a little bit. Either way, not that bad, and once it's warm it's nearly silent. At least mine is anyways. I've heard some N54's idle like semi trucks, haha.

I bemoaned the loss of the non-turbo straight six. But I am now a believer. The N20 is a fantastic engine. It is NOT as silky smooth as the straight 6. But it makes up for that with better power at all RPMs. Great engine.

I simply do not agree. It does have power but it is by no means fantastic. It lacks most all of the polish that is a characteristic of other BMW engines (including the old 4 cylinders).

The induction noise is exceptional only with one of the CSL airboxes/replicas IMO. Do either of you have one?
