USP vs P226
Just looking for pros and cons.
Anyone have experience with both? Not set on 9mm or 40, but willing to listen to that as well.

Both great guns depends which fits you better imo. I chose the p226 elite dark. I'll get a usp tactical one day as well

I really like both, and both fit my hands well. I wasn't considering 45, rather 40 at the most for mostly target. Thanks in advance!

USP
Pro: -combat proven reliability -polymer frame is lighter -external safety is in "1911 style" design, so easy to manipulate -excellent trigger Con: -proprietary rail does not accept conventional picatinny weaponlights, so you need an adapter (SureFire makes one) -Very expensive -Large grip -HK. Because you suck. And we hate you. (HK is known to have very poor customer support, and getting replacement parts is difficult) -------- Sig P226 Pro: -combat proven reliability -metal frame is very strong -no external safety, which aids simplistic/minimalist design -hammer decock lever for safe decocking -Some models have a picatinny style rail, which accepts conventional weaponlights Cons: -metal frame is heavier, which is not always conducive to CCW -long trigger pull is a problem for women and small-handed shooters -expensive -Recent complaints with Sig rifles having poor build quality and reliability. Unknown if this is going to affect pistols (so far it does not appear to)

If for target, you're going to want a larger weapon for the longer barrel. If I remember correctly, the sights on USPs are adjustable (at least on the Tactical and the match) while those on the 226 are not adjustable as far as I am aware, so that might be a big consideration.

I would also recommend looking at an HK P30 or P30L, or HK45.

![]() I have a P30 and prefer it to a Sig 226. I don't own a Sig 226 but I have used one extensively. I prefer the lighter frame of the P30 and the more comfortable grip (among a few other minor details). Parts are easy to get via internet (hkparts.net) but getting replacements directly from HK is next to impossible. You definitely suck, and they definitely hate you, haha.

8 years working land & water based patrol in So Cal with my then department issued HK USP 45 and I had no complaints!
What a great sidearm to have on patrol. Sure there are some pros & cons to every firearm but that USP 45 felt great! Smooth double action (on first round) & single action thereafter, simple safety & de-cocker. Also very easy to maintain I a salt water environment as most metal frame firearms rusted over time. Any who when I left my old department I had to leave my USP 45 behind. And although my new department made me switch to a Glock 21 (also a very good firearm) I still miss the days of my USP 45. That was one firearm I don't think I will ever forget!

I have a HK P30L 9mm and Sig P226 TacOps 9mm 20 round
Personally, I think the HK is a better shooter but the P226 TacOps is my SHTF handgun..if there is such a thing besides my HK Mark 23. That is by far, the most awesome shooting semi auto handgun I have ever owned. I love the weight of the P226, I love the feel and accuracy of the HK P30L. Both are favorites of mine so win win.

I've always wanted a USP. Finally some variants have become MA compliant but I think it's only the 40cal. I'd really rather have the 9 if only for the cheaper ammo costs.
