any "must read" type of books for handguns/safety?

For example "twist of the wrist" is pretty much the consensus motorcycling book. Is there an equivalent for guns?

Not necessarily a book - but see if you can get a copy of Magpul's Art of the Dynamic Handgun. It's not a safety video per se, but it covers the 5 rules of handgun safety, and goes into the shooting basics before moving onto advanced drills.

Read any of Col. Jeff Cooper's books. They are the quintessential foundation of all modern firearms training, marksmanship and gunfighting.
