I'm in pretty bad need of a replacement for my laptops which take a hell of a beating.

I'm just not interested in tablets (screens that necessitate handling and thus reducing visibility of what you're looking at? Are the Apple accolites really that dumb?)

The Surface looks reasonable but I don't like the fact that it (essentially) runs a cut down version of Windows 8.

So, are there any other alternatives to a Toughbook out there?

I gotta disagree with you. Something simple like wireless connection shouldn't require a bunch of bull sht. The rt my sister got for Christmas was new and all i did was made sure it was updated. The wireless fvcked up and i spent hours Christmas Day screwing with it. Never had the issue on my first gen ipad. The surface is the new Zune. A fail.

Bumping this old thread....

MachRc, did you end up purchasing a Win 8 RT or Pro tablet? What are your thoughts?

On a side note, I noticed in one of your pics you are using a Lenovo Tablet 1. How are you finding that? Been thinking of buying one and doing as you did with adding in the HSDPA card. Any thoughts or feedback would be great.
