I always wear a belt and have always bought my jeans/shorts bigger. I'm about 32 and wear 34. I have a variation of the crossbreed supertuck for my xd9sc and it's REALLY comfortable for me. When sitting in the car it doesn't bother me either, unless I have the extended mag in, then I have to put her in the glovebox, it just sticks out too much for a seated position.

So what's the consensus on a weapon light? Is the surefire x300 ultra the great thing? Is there something weapon mounted with more than 500 lumens? I also heard that anything over like 120 lumens becomes a detriment because its too bright indoors, like a house...?

I opted to go without one, mostly due to weapon size and limited options for lights and holsters (sub compact).

I did goof around with one for a bit, and it is really nice to the light right there as you draw. If I was carrying a G19 or similar size, I'd have one mounted for sure (most likely the x300, since it seems to light of choice for many)

I've never heard anything about having too much light indoors.

The X300 Ultra likely could be a great weaponlight, but it's still delayed so nobody knows.

An X300 at 170lumen or Streamlight TLR-1S at 160lumen are both very good indoors. The standard Streamlight TLR-1 with 130lumen is also fine. This concept that there is some magic number of lumens where it's no longer good indoors is really just hyperbole. It's all predicated on a myriad of conditions.
I was helping serve felony arrest warrants at a house last night and we had two fugitives that we couldn't find. I found a crawlspace next to the basement stairs, and I looked around and realized that somehow I was the smallest person there. Handed my M4 off to my partner and pulled out my G22 with Streamlight TLR-1S (160lumen) and crawled in. It was tighter confines and lots of stuff in there. If the concept that say, 100 or 120 lumens was the upper limit, I should have been blind. Nope, 160lumens was not a problem. I wound up dragging this 20yo kid out by his shirt collar with my pistol to the back of his skull. He looked at me initially and was obviously adverse to the light.

The biggest advantage to having a light is that with it, you OWN the space you illuminate. Anyone you illuminate is going to have to fight through that light. Regardless of what the lumen levels are and what texture and color of paint is on the walls and all that hoopla, the simple fact is that the criminal or threat will always be at a much greater disadvantage than you, because the light is pointing directly at them and they have to fight though it. You get to fight WITH it. This is why I really advocate quality handheld or weapon mounted lights.

For all weaponlights, the two most powerful for small arms are the SureFire M900LT at 700lumens and M900V at 500lumen. There are a lot in the 200ish range.

Sometimes I wish I was LEO...your job sounds so exciting sometimes.

I've got a Viridian light/laser combo on my HK but have been considering something else for the Glock or the sig. I think I'll wait for the moment until the ultra comes out and then have a look.

Some nights like last night are a ton of fun.

Then there are nights like tonight where I spent 45 minutes on the can taking a shit while reading Facebook posts on my iPhone because I had nothing better to do, but then had to spend 5 more minutes there at the end because my leg had fallen asleep.

Ghostie, you're gonna be very happy with your holster. I love mine, and I plan on getting another Phantom for my duty pistol after the first of the year.

Like it so far.. wish the belt loop didnt stick out so much when wearing it, but it should be better once it wears in a bit. Works great with my shorts and is pretty comfortable to wear.

Yeah, because that will happen... now just let me call the rep, grab my knee pads and chapstick, and I'll get back to you in about 8 minutes.

Glad to see this thread!

Great topic for all discussion groups on all internet forums. The second amendment is under assault, along with the other nine in the Bill of Rights.

I am a certified NRA instructor, pistol and Personal Protection in the Home. I conduct concealed carry classes for private individuals and small groups here in Missouri. I'm also certified to teach the Kansas course.

I am a strong supporter of the right of individuals to choose how, when and whether they will prepare and act to defend their lives and property.

In light of IL's new carry law, I am looking into holster options. Here's the issue...I have a number of suits that are tailored such that I can wear the pants without a belt, so IWB is out. The legs are not baggy so ankle is out. Is my last option either in my briefcase or under my armpit like in stereotypical cop shows/movies? (Not sure what those are called.)

Any options I'm missing?
