PPG makes a polypropylene primer that seals the pores on plastic gas tanks. I hope OP was aware of it pre-paint.

I've used that stuff, and it is really more of a gimmick and doesn't work. The only way you can really get away with is if you coat the inside of the tank.

It worked for me on several dirt bikes. Did you empty and neutralize the tank first?

Hmm... I cleaned it, but I did not neutralize it. That could have been the kicker. I know many people who have had the deal with the same issue, but I never saw heard of them neutralizing the tank. Interesting indeed.

I don't have anything now, but I've had a few ATCs, TRXs, and CRs. Also did a lot of work on some DRZ400/450s and assorted bikes. The market is really low on bikes though, especially two strokes. If I had a good place to stick one, I would buy some up.
