Nullarbor here we come
In a few days I am driving from Brisbane to Perth.
I am going the long way - inland NSW and Vic to Geelong, Great Ocean Road, Adelaide then across the Nullarbor to Norseman then on to Perth. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong! I've done all the obvious things so hopefully all should be good. Planning to take about 2 1/2 weeks to do it. It is 6000kms. Wish me luck! |

Hitting a roo will be a bit of a risk.
Good luck on the trip. Sounds great. Will expect to see pics.

What a road trip! Do take lots and lots of cool photos along the way for us to see, with your car in it of course! Safe driving.

Although it is a well travelled highway, don't do anything silly like go charging off into the outback without water etc.
Any reason you're doing this? A bucket list? Too cheap to spring a plane ticket? |

The reason for the trip is I am moving to Perth. The options were sell the car, have it transported or drive it, and the latter option was the most appealing.
I wouldn't mind upgrading to something like a 2006 325Ci, but I have only had my car for 2 years and have just finished most of the preventative maintenance on it, and its only done 95000k, so I just don't think I can justify selling it at present. Definitely don't want to hit a roo - was in Hobart last week and saw the size of some of the roadkill on the freeway to the airport - certainly wouldn't want to hit one of those monsters in an E46! Will not be driving the Nullarbor at night - that's for sure. YES - will take lots of pics. Not sure when I will be able to post them as I don't have mobile internet. |

That will be a fantastic drive, good choice on driving it instead of flying or selling. You probably won't do it again.
Just take your time and enjoy it.

Your biggest challenge these days will be staying awake on the 90 mile straight - and not getting up to some silly speed. I think they still do speed monitoring from planes over there in WA.

Nice, have a safe drive!
Once I do a few more things to my car this week, it's up for sale... hopefully by early February it'll be gone so I can buy a car in Perth to drive back to Sydney via a similar route. Bucket list item for sure. |

Cars are generally a bit cheaper in the east.

Watch out for roos. I've hit one in WA at dawn in a rental car before.

on the 90-mile straight, i got it up to 170 before it became too bouncy!

Thanks guys, yes I'm leaving today, packing the car now - the boot of a coupe seems really small when there's lots of stuff in it.
Will definitely take lots of pics - not sure when I will be able to post them. |

The boot and boot rack of a TR4 in 1972 was bluddy small for herself (then the fiance) and me when we drove over there from Qld. I think there was still about 200 miles of unsealed and rutted road then. Great fun in a sports car with no ground clearance - and no money so we had to drive through the night to cut down on the accommodation costs - and herself couldn't drive because she didn't have a licence.

All I can say is just finish your driving by dusk. There are a large amount of animals to hit after dusk.
