It probably is still now, but Lee Priest was notorious for living fast (food, drugs, women). Nobody did it like Lee!

Went for 400, got close but just wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'll try again in a month or so.
Definitely liked going barefoot better though, felt far more stable.

Whats your current max?
I honestly think if I would have eaten better (and hadn't just gotten over being sick), I'd have had it. And I'm a pretty small dude. lol

I did 345x1 once over the summer. Haven't maxed since.

If you've been doing it somewhat regularly, I bet you're damn close.

How often do you guys go for max lifts?

I don't know if it's because of this thread, but I'm doing a one rep max on DL every week. Not sure if that's good or not.

In the past on other exercises, I thought that going for one rep sets/max was a waste of time.

I've been maxing my deadlift maybe once a month-ish. More-so just when I'm "feeling it".

Probably every few months. I may try a 400lb deadlift tonight just to see where I stand.

I wouldn't say its a "waste of time" but I don't think you'll see appreciable games working just within a one or two rep max scheme. Even just training for strength you should be in the 3-5 range. Not to mention your chance for injury vastly increases.

That being said, I'm throwing 315 on in a couple hours and seeing how many times I can pull it. My previous deadlift was 275x8, then 275x6, so I'm hoping I can pull it at least 3 times without risking injury.

I'm moving up just 5 pounds per week so being able to get a new PR regularly is kinda cool. I'd usually go for at least two, but the 2nd rep lots of times I can't get it off the ground and feel it just tires me out.

Agree on the chance of injury, but it's not whole lot heavier than my working sets. Still have two working sets afterwards where I get around 5 reps or so.

GL on the 315. Shouldn't be too much of a problem if you're doing 275x8

Thanks, I stuffed my face today in preparation.

Movements like deadlifts and squats allow for progression like that, definitely satisfying!

I can't remember the study I read, but the chance of injury going from ~90 to ~95% of 1RM was dramatically increased.

I definitely need more sleep... I was dead working out today despite eating huge.

I got 315 off the floor for only one rep... I really thought I had more in me. Got 280x3 after that... Disappointed. Give it another shot next week!

I can 100% see those odds. Especially deadlifts where form is so crucial and so many things could go wrong...its one thing for bench, or curls, or heck, even hang cleans. But bad form on deadlifts could potentially cause a herniated disc, hernia, pull your back, etc etc.
