330 performance cams?..

Hi guys I've been reading zhp cams are worth it? Just wondering where you can buy them and for how much? Does anyone recommend any other performance cams? Ps I've baught a 330 engine to go in my 325 so it's out the car hence low labour on this job. Cheers

The tool for cam removal alone is $1400 US, so if you can find somebody to do this for you inexpensively I would jump on it. The cams are hollow and extremely delicate so they should not be removed without the proper tool.

If you do then you also need the software to go with it, another $300

Where sells them??

Straight from BMW, I guess. Tischer would be one source.

It use to be cheaper, prices went up. For that cost a good set of Schrick cams might be worthwhile.

shricks are worth it. zhp's are a waste of time in my opinion

Note: BMW performance engine kit includes

Special nut for the oil pump and pinion threaded connection

If you do the Schrick cams and also do software to increase your RPMs, sounds like you should secure your oil pump nut. It's a heck of a job, but you can replace a whole lot of hard-to-get-to parts in the process, such as the oil pan gasket.

ive had no issues and i sit at high rpm's all the time

Yeah I'd much rather spending my money trying to make a facelift coupe look like an M3 too..

i think he was just talking about the "zhp cams" vs. "Schrick cams". nothing about those with a 330 car and the optional package

1400 I think not......The cams are hollow but delicate. I've changed mine and others no problem

Yup it's possible to do it without, you just have to be extraordinarily careful. There are YouTube videos on how to do it.

Personally I'd take my head out and bring it over to the dealership, pay them some money to use the tool to remove the cams. I dunno how much it'd cost but sometimes, they're super nice and will bring the tool out to you to use. Hey, worth a shot

Rumor has it that the tool is made by one guy in Germany.

Made by Alpina (supposedly). Lower duration (and probably lift) though. I'm pretty sure actual Alpina motors run more aggressive profiles

Back when you could get the performance cam kit for $500 or so, they were absolutely worth it. But at $900... I don't think so. I wouldn't spend $1200 on Schricks either though.

I've heard they're made by Alpina too but I have my doubts in that. Not sure why they'd go through all the developmental processes to make their own cams when they can just get some good ones off of Schrick.

I'd sooner believe that and that these cams are just 'used' be Alpina in their modding journeys.
