Went to Gun Show Today - WOW!

So I decided to go to the show today to see how bad it really was out there.

My wife and I actually got up early and headed over. We were there by 8:30am.

The show officially opens at 9am, emails went out to those on "the list" for early bird at 8am.

The line was 15-30 mins long to get in depending on NRA, exact cash, or neither.

PACKED! I mean PACKED by 9am. People walking around looking for a quick $500 profit on used ARs, etc.

By 11am they were offering free admission for Sunday if you left now.

Shoot Straight (largest dealer) literally quit selling guns for 30 mins at a time to catch up with paperwork and payments and they had 30-40 employees.

I left around 1:30 and the BBQ line was probably 30 mins and the line to get in the show had to be 30-60 mins.

Summary:

a few good deals: (Saiga mags for $25 each, Spikes AR for $1100, S&W Magpul AR for $1200, Springfield XD kits for $469, etc

a few ok deals: used Glock 23 mags at $25 each, Tapco AR mags for $30, etc

a bunch of rip offs: S&W AR for $2000, Olympic AR for $1700, Glock 33 round mags at $125, Generic at $100, etc.

Two or three times as many people than I have ever seen at a gun show at any time or any day.

The biggest dealer (Shoot Straight) had some decent deals, but there was NO negotiating at all. 2 hour wait just to pay for the gun you picked out with 30-40 employees working as fast as they could and eating pizza standing up.

Insanity!

i love the joke that obama is the greatest gun salesman of our time, because its so true. ironic eh?

I have 8 glock 33 rounders. I should sell them for 125 each and make a quick 1k. Rofl.

It's crazy out there. I would of hopped on the spikes ar. Spikes upper as well?

I am not sure,but I do assume so. Spikes is local and it was Shoot Straight.

I should have bought it, just did not jump fast enough.

Kudos to them for being at or below MSRP on everything they brought.

It was going fast though. All Of their ARs were gone within 6 hours of opening on first day.

you could have saved a trip by just going to the the Health & Fitness subforum.

There isn't a Tampa show for a while I had no clue Spikes was in Apopka!

Yepper. I did not see them there but I know they are backed up for months.

There's a spike AR with MOE Magpul accessories going for $1700 at my local store. Also a little more decked out S&W AR going for $2600 but it comes with 6 pmags!!! haha

Your in NY those pmags better be pinned to 10... id prefer 6 preban 30 rounders.

I just went last weekend. It was my first time and I was shocked. It's just a big pawn store. I was expecting much more.

I have seen $1000 for a stripped lower here in oklahoma. It's bad everywhere.

I spent $10 to get in to my local Gun Show on Saturday. I walked out disgusted. What a crowded mess and insane prices. Never going to waste my time again at one of these things....Glocks for $650, people walking around with ARs and signs on them for best offer. Crappy GI AR mags for $35......blow me.

I swore off gun shows long ago. I have no interest in relics, surplus gear or cheap Chi-comm knockoff accessories.

What's the difference between pre and post ban mags? I thought the ban just affected mag size and attachments. I figured all pre and post ban 30 rounders would be the same.

Aren't glocks typically in the $600-$700 range anyway?

The only pre-ban mags are the ones that were built before the 1994 AWB. All mags built from 1994-2004 are "post-ban". All built after the sunset of the AWB in 2004 are just normal mags. If there is a ban, mags manufactured before the ban starts will all qualify as pre-ban status.
However, there are certain states where you can't even have pre-ban mags. My understanding is that they're trying to do this with the whole country where EVERY mag would be limited to 10rds, and there would not be any allowance for pre-ban exemption.

Not usually. They're normally in the $500-$600 range, depending on configuration. $600-$700 is the current "frenzy markup", and I'm surprised it's not more. Of course, for a handgun that's probably them tacking on more money for the "high capacity" mags in the box. They won't say that publicly though.
