9mm
Looking at a 9mm for target and conceal carry. I was looking at a Glock 19. I want something with at least a 4in barrel the sub compacts do not fit my large hands. Anyone have any experience with glocks

Been carrying one every day for a couple years now, Ive had 2 so far and have put thousands of rounds down range with it. I trust it with my life. You cannot go wrong with a GLOCK.

Some people dislike glocks for a variety of reasons, many of which I find unfounded. Some claim that they can't stand the grip angle. I have so much trouble figuring out why this is an issue. With proper grip technique and presentation you'll be right on target every time. I go from shooting a 1911-gripped gun to a glock with no issues whatsoever. Some claim that Glocks have a bad trigger, or are uncomfortable to hold. All of those things can be rectified by a little simple cosmetic modding to be tuned to your preference. Lastly, some claim they're ugly. You don't buy guns to win beauty competitions, you buy them to shoot things. There are other outstanding 9mm's out there that will work for you too - you just happened to ask about glocks and CC/range shooting. I really do feel that the G19 is the quintessential 9mm that everyone should own, it's truly one of the most versatile pistols out there on the market. |

My first gun I ever bought was a glock 19. To this day I still carry a glock 19.

A friend of mine told me he "might" not buy a Glock for his first carry pistol. I promptly told him he IS an idiot.

When I was looking for a 9mm I went and held a ton of different ones. The Glock just felt weird in my hands. I ended up deciding on an XDm.

Go out and shoot a bunch of pistols until you find one you really like. Glocks are great guns and I am a fan, but they're not for everyone. The advantage to them is that their design is idiot simple, so you can completely disassemble them with a ball point pen.
What features are you looking for in a gun?

I have a Glock 19, but I prefer carrying the M&P Shield 9mm more often than the rest of the arsenal (XDm 40, LC9). The LC9 is small, thin, and light but I just don't like the way it fits in my hand. It's great for pocket carry. The Shield was tough to find, but with the 8rd mag it fits into my hands very well (I'm 6'4)

My XDm has been nothing but awesome. Feels great and aslong as you put good ammo through it then should be flawless. I carry the 3.8 xdm 9. |

XD or Ruger LC-9. I as well suggest renting several at your local gun range and see what feels best.
Good luck Last edited by Nt_loader; 01-06-2013 at 09:09 PM. |

I want something that's reliable and easy to shoot and clean. I am an avid hunter so I have an arsenal of rifles and shotguns but am just starting into pistol shooting. With so many companies making pistols it does get slightly overwhelming

There are lots of gun companies that make handguns, but if you define what specific features you're looking for, you can narrow it down to a short list before you ever go to the range.
I would highly recommend shooting some before you make a decision. I had a buddy that was dead-set on a Springfield XD for HD and eventually for carrying. I took him shooting and brought my M&P9, Glock 34 and Glock 22, and he rented the XD. He shot everything, and after 50rds through the XD, he was fully convinced that he was not getting the XD because he didn't like shooting it. I personally very much dislike the XD grip, and I'm not a fan of the trigger either. He was torn between the Glock and M&P, but ultimately decided on the M&P because of the interchangeable backstraps. The M&Ps are better than Glock's Gen4 offering for people with small hands, and he wanted to teach his fiance how to shoot, so this was important.
