The SMG soft reset won't really help the "shudder from standstill" problem. Yours is a clutch-related issue, not an SMG gearbox-related issue as such.

But a clutch recalibration is something best left to someone who has some knowledge of what they're doing with the software. If you're new to it, there's a risk of messing things up..... Quote:
Not sure why this is, but someone else may know? Quote:

It is a clutch calibration issue! Hope this helps!

No, not quite.
I thought SMG calibration was something different to clutch calibration (biting point reset?)

Clutch.
Someone local to you must be able to help? Either try a good BMW specialist, or someone who knows how to use the diagnostic software. And it's best done when the car is cold.

Ok if you own a SMG M3, you should always have at least 1 spare salmon relay in the car at all times. you can get the relay at any BMW dealership, but I would check around and get it at the lowest price (including shipping & tax).
Now to address your issue. Will a clutch adaptation learn-in fix your problem. Yes, if your problem is clutch engagement. Maybe or no if there are other issues. A SMG clutch should last in excess of 100k miles under normal usage. (now anything man made can fail at any given point in it's life span) Check your regional forum section for someone with a INPA/DIS/GT1 computer that is willing to do a clutch learn-in. You're going to need a heavy-duty battery charger also. The cost will be based on the hourly rate of whomever is performing the work. A fanatic might charge you $60 and a dealership might charge you $250 ( all prices are guesses as I don't know what the person performing the work's hourly rate is and how long they perceive the work to take.)

Hey, first post ever, thought I'd give my 2 cents.
I drive a 2005 M3 SMG and I've been having this same shuddering problem. But mine has ~72000 and it shudders when it's both hot and cold. I took it to my mechanic (we are very good friends) and he said it needs a new clutch, but I can wait a little longer before changing it. He said it will cost about $1500. Not the greatest news, but I trust him. This could possibly be the same issue for you. |

Usually a new clutch isn't needed. The clutch needs to be re-learned (adaptations). Sometimes it's the slave cylinder. Very seldom is it a damaged / worn out clutch until you're closer to 100k. But failure has happened before 100k.
Also, if he replaces the clutch, the relearn process has to be run after installation to ensure proper inital engagement.

Ask for smg clutch teach in. this will let the computer know when the clutch is engaged. same as when you would drive a manual and feathering the clutch. The teach in will let the smg know how far the clutch is until full engagement. Where as the manual you can feel it and start pressing the accelerater
