Delrin

Does anyone have experience with Delrin, a smooth plastic?. Imay use this product in the interior of my 330Ci to mount LED's.

Alternatively, has anyone found a black plastic that matches the grain of our cars' interior plastic?

Hi,

Delrin is DuPont de Nemours name for POM (Polyoxymethylene)

Al, thanks. I was aware that Delrin is manufactured by DuPont. Have you had any experience with it?

Hi,

I don't have so much experience with.

Delrin is easy to work with, but very difficult to bond and paint.

Did you read the Wikipedia page ?

Delrin is used more for its mechanic's properties than aesthetic's.

I have derlin solid differential bushings. Very hard stuff

I was thinking of using Delrin to mount .4 inch high digital read outs for oil pressure and temperature. Maybe this isn't the best material.

Suggestions?!

I'm ordering a sheet of Delrin today from McMasters. I'll let you know what I find after it arrives.

Delrin is shiny! I'll keep looking for a black plastic that matches our radios' finish.

FWIW here are some of the plastic types I found when I took out my console. These were gleaned from the recycle codes molded on the back.

Success! the sheets from TAP Plastics - Acrylic Sheets P95 Matte Finish - almost perfectly match the interior plastics in our cars.
