Alaska Cruise in July? Glockman pls...
Anyone been on a summer cruise in Alaska? There are a good number to choose from, so I am interested to see if anyone had a particularly good experience with a certain company, visiting certain destinations?
There are cruises that roll a departure from Seattle/Vancouver, into a final destination of Anchorage where you board a train and visit Denali Park for a few days... not sure if thats overkill. This is for our honeymoon btw. So will probably spring for something with good ocean/shore views, and a private deck. Thanks.

I did an Alaskan cruise with my wife a bunch of years ago. Cruised out of Vancouver up to Anchorage and flew back. We cruised on Norwegian Cruise Lines. I'll start with cruise line, we we probably the youngest people on the ship. That really didn't bother us. Usually Alaska is an older crowd, but I think that is changing. The food back then was awesome, really some gourmet stuff. We did a bunch of excursions, pricey, but worth it. Some really cool stuff to see. I will be doing another one in the near future. Enjoy!

I went in 2008 on a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship. It was awesome. We left Seattle and returned to the same place. Visited Glacier National Park (don't miss out on this) and took a bus tour into the Yukon and back to the ship.
Definitely worth it and I'll be going again next year. |

Thanks for the feedback. So Norwegian had a lot of old people? I figure any cruise in Alaska will be an older crowd, not too many drunk teenagers like a Carnival cruise in the Caribbean. Still, don't want to be on the senior's boat.
Gonna look into their cruise packs that include Glacier National Park, I don't think the Royal Caribbean cruises I saw included this.

Went on the inside passage departing from Seattle on the Norwegian Pearl. Stopped in ports at Juneau, Scagway, Ketchikan and Victoria B.C. Alaska is phukin beautiful. I saw the northern lights one night along with only a handfull of others. The next night there were hundreds of people that stayed up but saw nothing.

Yes...I do think I hate you

i've done Alaska 2x, once with Crystal Cruises and the other with Holland America. Both were great with Crystal being a bit higher-end. Love the stark beauty of the landscape and wilderness. Would go again.

Did a seven day with Carnival on the Inside Passage. Spent something like 8 hours in Skagway which has a population of like 900. Each following port (Juneau, Ketchikan) you had less and less time in. We had to stop in Vancouver for cruising reasons, but that was at 7pm at night and had to be back on the boat by 11:30.

Here is my breakdown on cruise lines: Princess (Acura) = My favorite. Best value overall IMO. Mostly middle age and older. Great food and choices. Fresh water pools, fun but not a party boat. Celebrity (Mercedes) = High class, best food, old people, best service, slow pace. Royal Caribbean (Honda) = Middle class, younger and middle age crowd, average food, lots of activities. Carnival (Chevy) = Youngest and Oldest mix, party, less quality Disney (Lexus) = High quality, families, no casino. Norweigen (Toyota) = Average across the board The ships vary as much as the lines do. I had a great cruise on RC and a horrible cruise on RC. Princess is by far my favorite line across the board. Celebrity is romantic but can be boring. My parents love Disney even though they have no young kids. Research the SHIPS on cruise critic.com From my research, people like to do the Alaska train and a lodge stay at the beginning or end of their cruise. Hope that helps. Of course, JMO. Quote:
