I know some of you guys are on M3F... but not sure if you guys ever check out OT section. Anyways... recent poll blew my mind.
Which would you take...hypotetical 997 GT3 with PDK or GTR with 6sp Manual

Personally I would never own a GTR. Big and dumb looking in my opinion. I would choose any Porche over any Nissan.

Now allow me to defend myself real quick. Yes, the GT3 is what I want: A purpose built track day car... but it's still a porsche 911. Personally, I really wouldn't like to own a Porsche. I don't usually evaluate cars on a social level, but with Porsche its not easy to look the other way. It seems like so many people in America buy Porsche's just to spend money and get attention, and Porsche recognizes this. That's why the newest Porsches are very, very luxurious cars these days... its not enough for them to be just sports cars.
With that said, a Porsche 911 still isn't the car for me and my driving style. I like to drive my M3 a certain way, and if I tried that in a rear engine car (or even a mid engined) it would go very, very badly. I know you say you have to drive a 911 differently than an M3, but I don't want to. Like many of you, I would rather take the money and build something with it than buy a finished product. EDIT: Also, that poll specified a PDK GT3 vs. a 6MT GT-R, and unless I'm racing... I'm always going to choose the manual. I would rather have the 6MT GT-R for a street car than have the GT3 as a track day car. It's a matter of style I guess. I've decided that the car that I want needs to be the most fun to drive, anywhere, possible. I don't care as much about track times as some of you... if I did, I would be running aero. Part of what makes the car fun for me is having the car be fairly raw, very response, and me being in control of EVERYTHING. The DCT in my dad's new M3 is awesome, but it gives up some control like all automatics (on the street especially) in favor of faster times. The GT3 would suck on the street, and the 6MT wouldn't be as much fun on the track. So I have a modded E46 M3 and I love it. Last edited by Andy2108; 01-11-2013 at 02:39 AM. |

eh, for the price it's neat. over here in germany half of the vehicles are diesel, and a lot of the cars are little hatchbacks. this trip has solidified my favoritism with small vehicles haha. america is much more big car friendly, but still...

I have a lot of respect for porsche's chassis and suspention engineers for doing what they did with the boxster, cayman, and 911, but the engine is still in the wrong place and the marketing department and the accountants need to back off.

Why is it in the wrong place? Rear engine allows more power to be applie earlier than any other rear wheel drive car. Its just a bit different from say the e46 m3 but then again every car is a bit different. They always say a good driver can get the best from any car.

The RSR is the end all Porche and is my dream car at the momment. Although if i could order a m3 dtm car from the dealer that would take its place.
