The DME does have some adaptation, but it cant compensate for a 50% reduction in inertia with only a 17% compensation limit. (Just an example)
This is true. But wouldn't a high power aftermarket clutch and flywheel cause problems for a stock car as well if it would with that of a high powered car?

So I've been slacking on this build but I just bought a house so it's been crazy but no more apartment parking lots.

Does anyone know why I have different lifters 12 of each? I can only find one part number but they are clearly different.

Someone replaced 12 at some time. Odd, but a non-issue if they were working before.

Is it possible to put the engine in with the intake manifold and harness on?

Also I really don't want to spend the money on this....

http://store.bimmerworld.com/clutchm...its-p1293.aspx

The stage 3

Is there any other clutches that will be able to hold 400wtq for less money?

I'm not going to recommend a specific product, but I will say that this is one area where a bit of over-kill wouldn't hurt.

My personal choice would be a twin disk of some sort...which will more than double what I think you are looking at spending.

and the carb issue its less obvious then headers and i have 2 friends with cat less e46 's.. 1 has had it for almost 3 years and the other almost a year and they have been stopped numerous times but never for smell or loudness/emission related. most cops have no idea what a supercharger looks like under the hood and you tell me what is easier to notice a nasty smelling cat less car or a moderately "fast" bmw. and you know that you can keep your oem cats when you go f/i if you wanna release about 20 or so more ponies you can go cat less but you don't have to.

So if you leave the OEM cats on, you'll pass both visual and sniff inspection. (I've never had a smog tech so much as open my hood)

Do you know of any makers or kits a guy could bolt on and remain street legal in SoCal?

I have an '04 M3 with the SMG tranny, if that makes a difference.

Our Current Generation 8 Kit Stage 1 with Factory Headers will be able to pass emissions testing both smog and sniffer only thing we do not provide is the CARBS sticker.
