It might be able to correct it based on the lambda values. If lambda = 1, then fuel and air are at stoichiometric ratios. Where he would run into issues is at WOT, since WOT isn't target based on the ms43

That said, if he has 330 injectors and 325 software, there is a chance it wouldn't run lean even at WOT -- depends on the flow rate of the injectors.

You are almost certainly running lean. Get the 330 injectors and 330 MAF.

330 tune is programmed with larger injectors in mind. So it fires them at durations intended for that specific size. If you were to install smaller injectors, it'll still open the injectors for the same duration. Net result is less fuel. The restriction of your current intake setup is not enough to account for the reduced fuel.

Further more, the 325 and 330 MAF almost definitely don't have the same calibration. So the DME thinks its getting X kg/h, while in reality it's getting Y.

Basically your engine has no idea how much air and fuel it's getting. As you can imagine, those are very important parameters to running an engine. It can correct based on lambda values, but that'll be less than optimal. Also the lambda is ignored at WOT -- so your car can be downright dangerous to drive at full load.

i'm looking online and the part number for the 325i maf sensor is the same part number for the 330i maf sensor?
so that would mean i wouldn't need to change it right? maybe just needs a cleaning?

it wont? the mechanic said i needed to drive 50 miles and if it didnt go away to get a new MAF sensor or clean it and see what happens. Do these cars require the 50 miles reset?

why wouldnt he reset it??? the light needs to be reset, the code is already stored so its not goin anywhere. only thing driving it 50 miles is going to do is put the car through its drive cycles and set the monitors. thats after the light is reset. At which point while its doing that its going to check for any malfunctions.... and if your maf is ****ie it will probably throw the light again.

check the year again cuz I just checked my receipt and saw that it was actually $162 (with the 10% discount).

The 330 MAF I got is the one without the integrated AIT sensor (3 pin) found on earlier 330s.

good luck

Cool thread OP! Be glad the engine failed that early and didn't fail right after the warranty ran out. I'm sure the next one will work out for you. Keep us updated and post pics when you get it back.
