Doesn't matter, still went to space. Casualties happen when you push the boundaries, I'm cool with that. We didn't get where we are today because people were too afraid to take risks.

Oh, everyone knew who those people were for a short time. But I don't think that qualifies as "immortality."

It's surely an awesome trump card, but it requires you to come back alive, which wouldn't be happening in the trip to Mars posited here.
