Lol..
I either over estimated the M3 or underestimated the GTi.. The driver of the VW would have gone and bragged to all his Mates about how he killed an M3 |

Lol... it shouldnt even come close to an M3. Unless the GTI was like APR Stage 3 or something.
Im pretty sure even a stock 330ci will beat a stock GTI. I have both cars at home, maybe the golf would be faster at taking off if it's DSG but no way in hell it comes close to a M Are you sure it was GTI? maybe a golf R. btw i dont see any video |

It was definitely a GTi. Modified but the problem was a very slow take off in the M3 whereas I think the golf accelerated hard. Pete also shifted at 5.5k/6k into 2nd, 3rd and 4th which didn't help the situation! |

It's a Pirelli Edition, going by the colour (a bit like Dakar yellow).
They received almost another 30 kW from the factory so instead of about 142kW it was 169kW. According to the RB link above, it also has 300Nm from 2200-5200 so a fair bit of torque down low which suits traffic light grands prix. But the claimed 0-100 is still only 6.6 which is only .4 quicker than the boggo GTi I believe. Being a turbo though and thus quite easily liberated, he might have had a bit of work done - chip + increased boost. It still looked bloody wobbly in the corners, either that or old mate is not a good wheelman

Yeah I agree that the DSG would be another advantage there. Not as 'raw' a driving experience but quicker through the gears. Could see from the vid that at each gearchange the M lost some of the gains it was making within each gear. YMOAMG also seemed to upshift into 2nd really early. I've noticed with all the bimmers I've had that it has been necessary to rev 1st right out in order to land 2nd in the 'sweet spot', the way the gearing and torque characteristics of the engine are. I would expect the S54 to be a lot better than my non-Ms in that department but the M3 has always had a more 'peaky' motor compared to say a V8 with similar 0-100 performance. Makes it more exciting to drive IMO cos it pulls at the top end instead of running out of breath, but means you've gotta work that much harder off the line.
OT, seems like that will change with the new F30M or whatever it's going to be called. In the end it's still just a Golf. And a bright yellow one a that

At least with a stick M3 you can wind the revs up a bit before feeding in the clutch. I am not sure about the SMG but I would assume one would need to engage S6 and LC in order to be able to dial even some revs in before engaging the clutch at the driver's will.

Any car can beat any car depending on the amount of modifications they've received.

You should easily blow the doors off that thing. I leave mine in S5 all the time, but yeah looks like he was changing way early. Main thing though I dont think he had his foot buried as the gearchanges should be a helluva lot quicker, even in S4. If I bury my foot in my car in S5 (I have mine in S5 all the time) the changes are heaps quicker than that. Remember, he probably doesnt know the car like you so was probably holding back a bit...
Get a 4:10 diff, that will speed things up! I'm thinking thats my next mod... ![]() http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-21...m3-e60-m5.aspx

You are wasting your time short shifting the m3 expecting it to win. It makes its power at 8k not 5.5k.
My mini is rated at 6.1 or something and smashes the m3 in a straight line if its not max out shifts and hard take off. |

Moral of the story. If Declan gives you the keys, drive it like you stole it

Haw haw haw, look at that, the Spit run, amazing there wasn't more traffic than there usually is! I think YGO was just treating your car with respect
I'd be too aware of pushing someone else's M3 to the redline too.

I've seen a MK4 GTi with APR (not sure which stage) tune and it's proper quick. While the VW is innately flawed through its drivetrain, with the tune they make a pretty decent street queen. I think an M3 is definitely at home on the track, where you can push through each gear like a bat out of hell, where the VW is going to give you some cheap thrills around town.

Ye had been driving through decent traffic for the past 15-20 mins.. Shifting at 2500-3000 .. Getting used to the sMg..
So really hadn't stretched the legs yet.. Didnt realize I was shifting that early out of first.. And I wasn't sure that he wanted to run.. Hence the slow take off from the lights. And following him through traffic.. Didn't really think it was too smart going That quick, which is why I was so far back. Could have hit those roundabouts alot harder too.. The amount of grip these things have is amazing ! Was not expecting it to be that good. In the non m you get that understeer, in the M it's just simply not there!

Yeah I noticed the hesitation at first and thought it was because you weren't sure if it was on or not...
I reckon take down the vid as a) despite the fact the speed readout is obviously broken, it's a vid of a race on a public road and b) it's obviously not a clear representation of how the two cars would finish in a proper line-up I must say though when I had my RS Clio there was a certain appeal to occasionally embarrassing more expensive metal with a little hatchback
