I ended up going to sound advice in Washington but they didn't make the pods that we discussed they would. Instead they just installed them in the door panels(charging me the same amount)..needless to say, I am disappoint and plan to have words with them today.

That blows! Sorry to hear man. This is one of my a/v installers. He used to be in Maryland, but now he is in Springfield, VA.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...ghlight=ca1242 I go to him and cynical wry for all of my a/v needs. They're great guys and you definitely won't have any of the issues that you just ran into. If you are up for a road trip, I would PM ca1242. It's DEFINITELY worth the trip.

I went back and talked to them...he's saying that I don't know what I'm talking about basically. Its my own fault. He drew up a quick picture of what he was planning to do for the pods, but I didn't keep it because it seemed like he knew what he was doing.
Live and Learn I'll send some pics of the actual work later. Sent from my HTC One X+ using Bimmer App

That blows man. Great way to treat a customer.
I had a similar experience with a previous " well known " mechanic. I always felt that I was treated okay, but could have been treated better. The current lifter/ticking issue going on with my car started last year. He tells me it was because of using sh!t oil in the car. Mind you, I have been using Mobil 0w-40. I haven't been back there since.

Heh. That doesn't sound like an oil problem. Did you figure out what the noise was?

Supposedly, it is/was the lifters. It was my choice of oil that led to that problem according to that mechanic. So after I get the lifters done by another shop... the ticking is still there.
I found threads after the fact saying that the valves should be done at the same time as a lifter job. I've been going through a bit of a depression lately, so I just said f it and bought the components for an M3 swap. It's about to be done soon. Modding the car is the only thing that has kept me sane throughout this time. Dude... are you happy with that speaker placement in pictures 1 and 2? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that looks really weird. Where is that speaker located in the 3rd pic? That looks more custom and OEM style.

Well. The only "custom" work is the mid install, which is in the factory location. They are larger than oem though. All the pics are of the mids. I am not really happy with it. It doesn't go with the flow of the interior at all. This is why I wanted fiberglass pods and that's what we had talked about, but I guess he felt like workin me over.
The way I see it is, he cut bigger holes in my door for the same price quoted for fiberglass pods... Sucks about your motor. Are you nearing completion on the project? Any pictures along the way or are you having a shop do the swap? Sent from my HTC One X+ using Bimmer App

I plan to wrap my woodgrain in 3m gloss black. So it will match those speaker rings and hopefully look a little better

A lot of people in the class basically memorized a book and then got their MECP certification. But what the h*ll is the point of a certification when you don't know squat? That is why I would NEVER let a Best Buy or similar shop touch the car. Sorry about the rant, but that's what that out of place speaker placement reminds me of. My inexperienced classmates. My swap was due to start last week, but I'm a bit confused about which way to go with the exhaust. I never knew that there was a difference with the wheel wells between the 3 series and the M. Once I figure this out, then a friend of mine will be doing this at his shop. He's not a BMW "specialist", but he's confident that there will be no problems. I have complete trust in him, so that's not an issue. If something were to go wrong, he would sort it out. And yes... I will be taking pictures throughout the process. Quote:
But seriosly bro... why don't you make them fix that first? If your car is Black, then I could see wrapping or painting the trim to match. Don't do it to match something that you are not happy with though. Just my opinion personally.

I went back and talked to someone else. He said he is willing to get it fixed since the work that was discussed wasnt done. But he is wanting me to pay for extra work that was put into the initial job...the guy did a bunch of stuff I didn't ask him to.
None of what he did affected functionality, he just cleaned up a little of my old install. I agreed to compensate for some of the work done that he didn't charge for. We didn't agree or talk on amount, I think they just want me to buy something else. Anyhow. I drop it off Wednesday to get the fiberglass pods I paid for. Yeah the m3 muffler goes along the length of the bumper pretty much. I had to figure that out when I was looking around for a rear section. Kudos on your guy if he can get it done. So you are MECP certified? That's still cool to have. Especially if you have knowlegde and skill to back it up.
I have always wanted to be an installer. I would have done the work myself but I have no work space. Sent from my HTC One X+ using Bimmer App

Sorry... I was busy over the weekend. No, I didn't get my certification. My skills are minimal. That is why I go to ca1242 and cynical wry.
