I haven't had any transmission problems with my AA kit yet, and have frequently hit the top power that it makes. It has been boosted for around 17-18000kms. You would have to REALLY thrash the car 100% of the time to have problems, either that or it isn't tuned right.
You could get a manual tranny if the auto fails, or a dogbox

Out-of-town trip - transmission light came on two different times - shut it off and they both cleared. It drives and shifts fine otherwise. Back to BIP to see what the codes mean.
