I believe alternating between db and bb is the best idea to ensure the most muscle fibers are recruited/developed

We're specifically discussing your question about the need for the bench and your statement about incline benching until failure/heavy dumbbell presses. The dumbbell statement was the impetus for my statement about heavy dumbbell presses not translating to the ability to bench heavy weight. There are certain exercises that are going to develop outright "power" better than other alternatives (..i.e...dumbbell squats versus barbell squats or the military press versus dumbbell shoulder presses).

Muscle fiber recruitment/development is an entirely different argument. In fact, heavy weight isn't really needed at all to recruit and develop fiber. Heavy weight is primarily used to develop power. Power and strength are two different things.

agreed, just meant the exercises themselves develop your body slightly differently, with more impact on stabilizer muscles coming from DB's etc

I actually prefer the stimulus of DB's, but they don't broaden a frame like the BB. So the BB is my priority with DB's secondary and cables tertiary.

Understood, thanks. My concern right now would be growth. I will start bb bench back up this spring for strength.

What do you think about chest dips, weighted and non weighted.

I think super-setting chest-focused dips with mid-intensity bench is great (noting that I don't support going for big numbers on BB bench.)

It's more easy to kill with a sword than with a gun.

A sword is more frightening than toy-looking gun like glock.

robbing with a sword is a good thing

That's exactly what I do. I also don't go huge on the bench, been using 225 for the last 3 years lol.

Chest height cable crossovers are a great way to focus on the chest too, with slow concentrated reps... always find last few reps suck though feel like chest is about to rip apart

and a decline bench every once in awhile doesn't hurt too

I do dips weekly, so I'm a fan.

I never decline bench. I hate the way it feels. I'd rather dip!

Why do you doubt it? Because you aren't as strong? I'm probably the ONLY one of the strong fellas here who hasn't gone on camera and thrown up big weight.

LOL! The guys who go on video have the benefit of either working out in their home basements/garages or in a private college gym with very few people around. If I videotape myself (..which is already a problem because I generally workout alone) in a crowded corporate gym, I'm going to look like one of those gym douches that I make fun of. BUT, for the purposes of proving a point regarding CRSmoak's ridiculous pull-up comment, I will have somebody tape me tonight.

I might even throw in a couple of reps @ 350 lbs. (..which is like 95% of my 1RM) and 5-6 reps @ 315 lbs. into the mix since tehcbass claims that such a thing is impossible.
