Get OEM sachs/boge shocks. The springs are probably still fine on the car unless the cracked in the back.

if you are looking for something cheap, go with KYB GR2... probably best alternative AND half the price of oem

like i said... kyb or Monroe is best alternative. these companies have been around for a while and are used by many shops around. i think the rear shocks are about $35/piece and from strut are about $75...
Sachs are oem and will have same performance as the above. Sent from my SGH-I727R using Bimmer App Last edited by pawelgawel; 01-22-2013 at 07:52 PM. |

Bilstein Touring is $320 from eShocks. Great ride, good handling, and pretty cheap.

I have put the Sachs $165 shock and the Monroe $50 shock onthe car. I could not notice ANY difference in ride.

Stock oem as already said. If your springs have more than 200K on them I would chnage them at the same time. I replaced my rear shocks at 200K miles on an E36 I had a couple of years ago. Not sure whether they were originals but I think they were. 5K later a spring snapped. So had to pull it apart again. Kicked myself.

I run the Bilstein Touring on my car with absolutely no issues at all. It does raise the height of the front ever so slightly, but otherwise I haven't had any issues with them whatsoever. I too was going to replace the shocks with Sachs but the Bilstein offer a lifetime warranty and that plus the fact they were $180 cheaper made my decision easy. They handle great and the ride is very comfortable.
