Thanks Bdave! Viable is the plan, eliminating some of the parts needed to run a low-mount turbo may help on the affordable side of things less downpipe. Also possible failure of a scavenge pump (which I dealt with on my 350Z low-mount setup) will be something i'm happy to eliminate completely. I can't wait to create a slick intake for the topmount position also!
Updates will be coming, now that I have the position locked in i'll be moving along. |

Will you have enough hood clearance to run a massive intake pipe and AFE filter? I know its a cluster ef to make this happen with a bottom mount. Almost everyone looses their AC if they go with the big intake tube and AFE filter. That's not an option for South FL and Texas cars. There are some other States too that will slay a person with out AC in the Summer. Then there is the other issue of the AFE being so low it can get hydro lock in a big body of standing water. Your top mount tubular should completely bypass these design short comings, yes?

Just get a professional welder to check all the welds once its here. The price is right! It is 100 times simpler than anything I have seen. So what is the catch? Are the runners too SHORT? Will the EGT's be too high? There is not much length involved. Is that a problem? Because it has never actually run does mean its an unproven design. Maybe its too much of a gamble unless someone can justify/verify the design.

He is going to move the engine further back, and in an upright position, so then he needs a new design. On a norwegian forum he says this manifold would be a tight fit in the e46.. Maybe too tight... I know he is a buddy of another guy who cracked the 1000whp barrier with the s54... (he also has a special manifold) pic little down on the side: http://www.bimmers.no/forum/viewtopi...089&start=1200 Last edited by E85head; 08-03-2012 at 06:56 AM. |

Doesn't look like that would fit in a 46 chassis, there's a mile on the exhaust bank! Pretty sweet little mani though
Haven't quite locked in the complete intake design I will be sure to keep you updated when that time comes though! I have been using some pretty compact air filters on a few different projects so i'm confident I will be able to put something that won't be too restrictive. Clicked a couple V-band pics while working on the fixture.. |

Sorry guys, summer gets pretty crazy around here. I'm planning to install the manifold next month as well as the downpipe. We already figured out the intercooler and used a 24x10x4 which is rated for over 800hp. I decided to use 3.5" for the exhaust, 4" is an overkill for a 6266 but is possible. I also decided on a single 44mm wastegate which can be easily serviced under the car. This car will be boosted by Oct. 31st!!! Just got to get some of my projects out of the way. Here are some new pics I have.

Sorry for lack of updates! Mayhem
I'm working with Michael Essa from GSR Autosport, he's building a competition E46 for the Formula Drift series this year. Just buttoned up his twinscroll topmount, everything is getting fitted in the chassis and then up for some dyno tuning. He'll be running the GTX35R along with a custom intake manifold, here's a few pics as I finished up the mani's... |

yeah a top mount is pain in ur dik with BMWs. not like an SR20, these damn slant 6s are a BI... i would pull the engine and give you plenty of room, take up and extra 2 days and waste all the coolant but for making the job easier and also see anything else that needs 2 b replaced.

It all goes together no engine drop. It's a 3 piece design and can be assembled in sequence. S54 is definitely a little more tricky to work on given the "tilt".
Once the topmount is installed it is a dream to work on compared to the tucked away bottom-mount setups. |
