Is 40 Rms Watts Enough

Your caps lock button might be stuck. 40 watts is definitely more than the 15 watts a head unit puts out, so it will be ok. But it really depends on how loud and how clear you want your music to be. It is all relative to your personal preferences. I would not get anything less than 100 watts, if budget allows.

On my last car I had about 150 watts per channel on my front speakers and it sounded pretty decent. I will probably go with 200+ on my next setup though.

Yeah Kicker isn't bad stuff, just a little cheezy/crappy looking designs. There high end stuff is actually pretty good.

there older stuff was I have not heard good things relating to actual power ratings, etc about there newer "affordable" lines.

If that is the case, then it is certainly a shame... they used to make really good solid stuff, even in their old lower line (Impulse). I also don't care much for their newer "gothic" look, it is a little bit gaudy.

I'd agree with most of the opinions I've seen thus far on this topic... 40 watts is "enough" but more would be better. If you had kept your stock speakers, I'd say 40 watts would be more than enough... Since you have upgraded your speakers, look at the "operating" range of input wattage they suggest... something tells me it's in the 40 to 100 (max) range... You also need to keep in mind that 40 watts out of a Kicker will not be the same as 40 watts out of a PPi or JL... Everyone rates theirs differently. If you're questioning whether or not 40 watts is enough, why not hook up the system with the option of trading up your amp.

What I'm suggesting is install (maybe not permanantly just yet) what you have with the intention of protecting for a larger amplifier if need be; put in larger than required power cable, and whatnot... this way if you are not happy with what you have, you'll be able to upgrade the amp and just swap out the old one?

Just my 2 cents...
