Guys I need your help temp problems

Ok so I have a 02 325ci and have been having issues with my temp going up and down, if I'm driving sometimes it will shoot up to hot then right back down to the middle when it was plugged up the coolant temp sensor came up as a code, so I had it replaced. Now since then my car in idle the temp will slowly rise. If te heat is on no problems really also when driving if the heat is off the temp goes a tad bit over the half. But again if heats on it's fine... I also had both hoses in the rear but the heater core changed because there was a hole. Then the mechanic said I needed a fan clutch, got that done and stilllll the same ****. Anyone have this issue or hear of it please help thanks

99.9% sure it's air in the coolant system. Your temp goes up when a pocket of air circulates and then drops back when coolant goes through. Bleed the coolant system. 10 minute job, 2 if yuor car is already warmed up.

The reason it's not getting hot when your heater is on is because the heater is "cooling" the engine slightly, and the thermostat is completely open (at least from what I've read) when the heater is on.

the shop did bleed the system there was a big air pocket in there but it could b that there is still some in you think?

Sounds like it. The bleeding procedure is posted on here. Defiantly worth a try since all it will cost is 10min of your time.

Get a new mechanic. Diagnosis didn't fit symptoms, since it happens when you're driving - air flow over radiator is just like when fan is running. Also, sounds like he didn't do a thorough job bleeding and was quick to recommend a more expensive fix.

Do you remember what your source was for that? Seems counter-intuitive to me. Heat is normally called for when the ambient temperature is low, which is when the radiator can take the most heat out of the coolant, also the heater is taking heat out of the coolant, so the coolant is likely to be cooler, hence the need for the thermostat to be partially closed. I'm sure that's a run-on sentence, but still, makes no sense to me.
